drowning at Castaway Cay yesterday

Sorry, what's CLN?

Cruise Law News. A well-known blog about the cruise industry.

I know over on cruise critic, every opinion I've seen regarding CLN considers the lawyer who publishes that site to be lower than the lowest of lawyers, the worst of "ambulance chasers" just looking to sue any of the cruise lines any opportunity they get. So anyone should be very leery of anything they put out there or rightfully be wary of anonymous posters seeking information.

I trust the ones who were right there. Their descriptions ring with a note of veracity. It's people who appear and are vague asking for more info because they are "friends" that gets my hackles up.

Also note that Anonymous0000 hasn't logged in since noonish yesterday, shortly after they were called out for being duplicitous.

Unfortunately you have the background to compare this to as we did in Jan 13. I just hate to see these types of things happen, but being someone that was curious to see what happen, I was surprised by many of the posts and comments that are here and elsewhere. I don't remember anything like this with the near drowning on the Fantasy.

Exactly! If they are such good "friends" I would think they would know more details about it and not have to ask on a message board.

Jsinmet I was on CC too that day. I just want to say thank you for what you did. phinz we had a few talks on the ship you are a really cool person. (muster drill in Walt Theatre was one) I'm not going to comment anymore than what's been said except to tell Jsinmet I saw him clearly being put in the helicopter and at that time he was very much alive. I hope that will help you just a little.

I would call Disney. They probably can't give you any info (HIPAA rules and all) but at least you know they're a known entity.

HIPAA does not allow information to be released.

HIPAA really has nothing to do with it. Magical Cruise Company, LTD (DCL's business entity) is neither a health care provider, health plan administrator, nor a company which would normally have patient health information that needs protecting. Disney won't release more information because it isn't anyone's business.

Yes, they claim the man was on his honeymoon and was employed by them. I really assume his employer was informed by the family or close relatives. No need to ask on a blog what happened to your employees.
Really disgusting.
Not always.

We worked with a older gentleman who didn't show up or call one day.

5 hours later his sister came in wanting her insurance check?

Everyone was like, what check!

Oh he died last night walking home and I want his death benefit right NOW!

We had to explain it would take a couple days after proof was provided.

Or they have no more information because HIPAA doesn't allow the hospital to give them the information, which was my point. I worked in HR and benefits for a decade. I owned a medical company at the time that HIPAA came into effect. I know how and why HIPAA works.

I have every sympathy for the lady who found the man, but his condition now really isn't anyones business.
She should seek counselling for any distress she feels now.

Sorry to hear and thank you. I'm just going to try calling DCL

Jsimmet, you can also try giving DCL your contact information, let them know that you were the one who helped the man out of the water and ask that they pass that information on to the family as you would love to know how he's doing. Unless they're DISers and see your post, that maybe your only option. Then it will be up to the family on whether or not they want to contact you.

It sounds like this could be yet another incident? This is getting confusing, and not in a good way whatsoever.

A SECOND passenger in four days has died while vacationing on a Disney cruise to The Bahamas.

#A 56-year-old American man was discovered dead on Sunday morning onboard the ship at Castaway Cay, Disney’s private island.

#Police in Abaco are classifying it as a sudden death. The victim, who is from Cleveland, Ohio, was discovered shortly after 7am, police reported. The cause of death is not known and the matter is under investigation.

#Last Thursday, a 38-year-old New York man drowned while swimming at the cay. The man was a passenger on the Disney Wonder on a five-night cruise to the Bahamas that departed from Miami.

#Castaway Cay is a private vacation stop exclusively for the Disney Cruise Line fleet. There are trained lifeguards at the private island.

Chrisrunty- I cannot thank you enough for letting me know that. My heart has been so heavy wondering if I got him
help soon enough. I pray for him and his family everyday and hope that he will make a full recovery. Thank you again, that means the world to me!

I just read on another forum that deaths on cruises are pretty common because of the older average age. The 56 year old may have had a heart attack, for example.
