I am still struggling to understand how our membership works sometimes. I assume I know the answer to this question but appreciate anyone who knows for sure!

We are planning to make a reservation for a Saturday check-in until the next Sunday, assuming we fly. So it would be 8 nights. If we drive, which we might for a variety of reasons, we will likely go down to a Sunday-Saturday, or 6 nights. This decision won’t be made until much closer to time of travel.

I plan to make the reservation for 8 nights at 11 months. We have 2019 points we are going to bank into 2020 so the reservation will be a variety of 2019/2020 points. If we cancel a night or two, which get returned to our account?

I am assuming the 2020 points would be the ones returned, right? So I can then bank them into 2021.
Same idea that I’ll book our home resort but hope to switch at 7 months, which would be less points, so the returned points would be 2020?

Yes, they return the least restrictive points to your account. So, if your reservation has banked and current UY points, the current UY points will be returned and the banked points will still be used for the nights you keep.

It is the same with borrowed poinTs. Those would also stay in a reservation that is reduced.

MS should do it that way but I will caution you to double check and make sure it was done this way.

Thank you! I assumed so but clarification puts me at ease while I plan logistics.

Luckily no borrowing for this trip, should have some leftover to bank for the next year.

you need to cancel the nights before 31 days ahead, or your points will go to holding. Once banked your 2019 points will forever be 2020 points, they will not be returned to 2019 if you cancel a few nights.

If your points go into holding, they need to be used before the end of the UY. Plus if you try to bank them, you need to bank them before you are in the last four months of the UY.
