I hope this doesn't offend anybody, but this has me laughing so hard I'm ready to pee myself! :lmao: :lmao: :lmao:

DH is a choir director for a Methodist church (I'm an atheist and don't go to church with him). Also, we live in the annoying region known as "Steeler Country." OMG, it's getting so bad around here that one of our towns has decided to rename itself "Steeler, PA" until after the Superbowl. (you can read about that here )

Anyway, someone at church gave DH a request for him to sing and I'll post some of the lyrics here for you (imagine it being sung in a country twang):

(Chorus)
Drop-kick me, Jesus, through the
goalposts of life, end over end,
neither left nor the right:
Straight through the heart of them
righteous uprights. Drop kick me,
Jesus, through the goalposts of life.

1. A lowly bench warmer I'm willing to be
until the time when you have need of
me... to flash on your scoreboard that shines
from on high... the big superbowl way up
there in the sky.

:lmao: :lmao: :lmao:

Will someone just wake me when the Superbowl is over???

:rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2:

Marseeya, I'm right in the heart of Steeler Country and getting just as annoyed as you! I actually work on the North Shore of Pittsburgh, a few blocks from Heinz Field. You should have seen all the crazy, drunk people there last night for the Pep Rally!

Dude, I love it.
Drop-Kick Me, Jesus, through the goalposts of life.
3 points!!!!!

;)
Made me smile, thanks.

Showing my age here, but I remember that song from the early '70's. I hadn't thought of it in a looooong time

What a coincidence! DH works on the North Shore too. :goodvibes He works for a certain gas company.

Isn't it awful having to drive through game traffic? You get it during football AND baseball season! Why don't they just move the Mellon arena over there and have done with it. :rotfl2:

I saw that it was copyrighted in the 70s!

Was it actually recorded? Or did people sing this as hymns in churches?

:lmao:

I told DH if he sings it for the person who requested it, he HAS to record it for me. I'll probably never let him live it down!

Yes - it was recorded. I remember it being played on the radio when I was a young teen. Just googled - you can buy a copy on Amazon!

I doubt it was big in churches. I think it was more of a honky-tonk song. Seems like I remember my Dad and some of his drinking buddies singing that song. It makes a nice companion song to "Plastic Jesus" (sung by Paul Newman in Cool Hand Luke) :sunny:

haha. Wow. Never heard that song, I don't think, but it sounds pretty interesting. I don't think I could take that song seriously if I heard it in church or elsewhere. Oh man.

I've never heard of that song, but I have to say, if anyone EVER sang that song in church, I KNOW tears would be rolling down my face from laughing so hard!! :lmao:

Our Christian Contemporary Radio station played it recently, in honor of the very rare drop kick made by Doug Flutie. Honestly, the music and singer sounds country, as if was made as a joke or fluke.

Wow - too bad you guys don't support your team in the Superbowl - I would be  :Pinkbounc :bounce: :yay: :cheer2: if were my team! Another week or so and it will be over. Oh, goodness, if they win, you better stay off the streets! Go Steelers - win the SB!

The song was recorded by Bobby Bare and if you have iTunes, it's on there too (I should know, I ponied up the $.99 for it ;) )

Oh my gosh. I'm a Christian and I am rolling!

I personally hate the entire football season. It's the number 1 religion here in southeast TN.

Oh, I do support them -- just in my own quiet way! You just can't imagine how bad it is around here right now. You can't walk into a bank, store, school or anything without seeing black and gold decorations everywhere and hearing that obnoxious, "Here We Go" song. One of the days at DD's school, it was "black and gold" day where the kids were supposed to wear Steeler's colors and she didn't. She doesn't own anything that's not pink or pastel, my little girly girl. She really got teased that day for not wearing black and gold, so I get a little perturbed at the over-enthusiasm going on around here.

I'm actually glad to hear the song was commercial rather than an actual hymn! :rotfl: DH had a copy of it, and the lyrics were on a page with more serious hymns, so I was kind of worried there!

Bleh! For us it's a tie between football and wrestling (high school).

When I married DH, he wasn't into any sports, but for the past 5 years or so, he's really been into football AND baseball season. :sad2:
