Cell phone contract is almost up . . . how much better is the iPhone than the Droid? Is it worth switching carriers???? Advice, please.

I have a blackberry....I am switching to an iphone asap. To me, the Droid doesn't seem as user-friendly, and the iphone will be cheaper for me than my stupid, non-working most of the time Blackberry.

I've never used a Droid, but I have an iPhone and I absolutely love it. Most of the things that a Droid can do and an iPhone can't (running multiple apps, etc.) are rumored to be in the next iPhone update. Regardless, I would still choose the iPhone. It is so very easy to use and can do so much. Plus, there are far more apps available for the iPhone since it has been around longer.

I've played with both and Android is going to win all the way for me. I had been a Treo user for years and switched to Blackberry for a year. I'm about to give that one up for an Android phone. I think it is a personal preference for many, but I am not impressed with the iPhone for some reason. I guess I also want more options on my phones (like keyboards vs touchscreen only) and Android phones have more options out there than iPhone.

There are a TON of opinions on this of course, but here's another. :) I've had, and played with both. The iPhone wins hands down, IMO for a number of reasons.

1. The quality of the Apple hardware is 2nd to NONE.
2. The iPhone OS is a very stable, well thought out OS. The Droid OS, by comparison, IMO only, feel very much like Linux. It works, it's powerful, but it's kind of sloppy.
3. The applications and the App store. Apple keeps very tight reigns on it's system from the hardware to the software. Anything you download, be it free, or paid, is most likely going to work as advertised on the iPhone. This is not always the case with the Droid, and many "open systems".

Again, these are my opinions as a long time iPhone user, who has had the opportunity to play with an Android phone for quite some time. I also work with two guys who own them, and frankly, I have been told that if it were not for having to switch to ATT for an iPhone, they would not have bought the Android.

With an Android phone you will have many choices on carrier & style of phone you want. Iphones are nice, but I didnt want to switch to AT&T & I wanted more options on phone styles.

Yes Android is linux based, but the user interface is looks very similar to iPhone.

A few months ago we went from verizon to att for an Iphone. I'm so happy we switched! I love the iphone for the apps and how well made it is. If you do get an iphone, AT&T is about to change its data plan on June 7th. Right now it is unlimited for $30. They will have different plans with different costs, but no unlimited data.

take some time and research the pros/cons of both from different sites (you can probably google 'iphone versus android' and get a ton of hits)... pick out a couple android phones that interest you, then go to a store and physically pick them up/check them out (do the same with the iphone if you've never held one); cause you might find that certain phones might just feel cheap/easy to break, or too heavy for your tastes.

got and android phone here, and it's awesome. There's nothing sloppy about the performance (as with any electronics, it's always possible to get a bum piece and have issues. I had 2 ipods in the past, both of which had an early 'death' due to hardware failure, so the quality of the product you get is always hit-n-miss no matter who makes it).

as far as applications, apple does keep tight control over applications (which can be a good thing); but on the other hand, with an open source, the android market can grow exponentially. Many app developers on android are easy to contact for suggestions or to report bugs; so they can correct them.

but it all comes down to personal preference.... take everyone's opinion with a grain of salt, and find what works best for you.

I got an iPhone last fall, and I love it! It's so easy to use, and now I'm a huge fan. I can't recommend it enough.

While most of my friends and coworkers have iPhones, I do know several people who have Droids and like them quite a lot.

I think most people who prefer Droids do so because they don't want to switch to AT&T to get the iPhone. Of course your mileage may vary, but I haven't had back luck at all with my AT&T service. We live in an area (metro Atlanta) where AT&T's coverage is very good, so I haven't had a ton of problems.

I will say this though...you don't tend to hear people say that they would rather have a Droid if they didn't have to switch carriers, but you do hear that about the iPhone. To me, that says that the iPhone is a much more popular device.

Are there any android phones that compare to iphone out there yet? I plan to get an HTC EVO when it comes out. I'll tell you if I like it. I do not have experience with iphone though. We have and ipod touch and like it.

i just got the iPhone what will be 2 weeks ago tomorrow,i haven't put it down yet!! Very easy to use, and very fast the touch screen is like no other touch screen. the data plan (which is required) is $30 a month, but very worth it

I really would like an iphone.:lovestruc
How much is it total a month (phone, data, etc.)?
And is there a big difference between the 3G and other models??
So new at all this, but want all the info I can get on it before I ever make the decision to get one and change carriers.
Also, isn't there a new law that you can switch carriers before your contract is up and there is not fines?? Not sure, thought I'd ask anyway! :confused3

its 30 a month for the data plan (internet), then you have your texting and minutes which varys on what you choose.

right now the 3G 8gigabite is $99, the 3GS is faster, comes in 16g or 32g, and has a compass haha

a new version is coming out within the next month i think, it will have a camera in the front for video chatting and have a new design, plus faster.

The $30 monthly date plan unlimited is going by the wayside. New users will be able to get 2G of data for $25 a month and I think $10 per G after that. This also will apply to all new Ipad users who get the 3g.

And would this include just one phone per plan or multiple?

Thanks again for all of the info!

:goodvibes

Iphone Pros:

Works with no learning curve out of the box
Great touch screen
App store controlled by Apple

Iphone Cons:

Att only
No flash ever
No USB
Must use itunes which can be on only 1 computer
App store controlled by Apple
No unlimited data plan anymore
Can't swap out the battery
No multi-tasking

The motorola droid has been the phone that is most compared to the Iphone. It has a physical keyboard if you need it.

It will be replaced by the M Droid 2 soon. ( the iphone is being replaced also )

The most common comparision to the IPhone now is the Droid Incredible.

It's running the HTC Sense UI which is a highly regarded multi-touchscreen. Its really hard to get right now.

The are 100s of comparisions between the iphone and the droid(s).

You'd do well to read the reviews to see which fits you better.
