With all the talk about the changes in the Verizon plans, DH and I are looking at upgrading my phone tonight. We want to get a phone that we are able to Skype on due to the fact that he's getting ready to deploy for 8 months and I won't always be home sitting at my computer. :surfweb: We also want a phone and/or plan that I can get my emails instantly. I know that Droids and I-Phones have similar features and I have done the comparison online, but I'd like to hear from those that actually have these phones and get their opinions. Which would be a better fit for me? Or is there another phone that you would recommend? TIA!

LOVE LOVE LOVE my iPhone 4 w/ Verizon. The "only" hangup I have with it is the fact that it doesn't support flash. BUT it doesn't bother me all that much. The screen size and resolution is great. It is VERY user friendly. My battery life is awesome, even with the growing number of apps i have.

My BIL has a droid phone from last year and hates it. The battery power sucks and he is waiting to get an iPhone. Verizon also.

I asked this question last week for the same reason :). Actually my post was moved to the community board.

Anyway, I ended up with an Iphone. If you go to the verizon website you can click on phones to compare and it will tell you if they support skype and other stuff. That might help.

Good luck!

DW has a droid and despises it. I had an AT&T iphone, but changed over to verizon on saturday to share the family plan and to get in before the data plans change.

BTW...Wal-Mart and Sams are offering the Iphone4 for $147. We went into Sam's and added a line to ours and it was no problem.

Love the Iphone.

Do people really use so much data that the new Verizon data policy becomes an issue? DH is trying to decide if he should get a new phone today for the same reason. He is also unsure about the i-phone/android and would like more time to consider it. Is the new data plan such a big deal?

I have the original Droid X and I love it!!! I got it before Verizon offered the Iphone. That said, when the new Iphone is released I will probably switch to the Iphone. I am torn because I do love my Droid, but I would love to be able to have all my Ipad stuff on my phone as well just to make it all the same and easy.

Love my iPhone! I've had it for a couple of years, and just upgraded to the 4. My only complaint is the 4 has a sensor issue which causes the phone not to hibernate properly while on phone calls, and I muted, dial, facetime, and speak phone with my cheek all the time. (DH actually jailbroke my phone, and I bought an app for 99 cents that locks my screen. So, problem solved!)
But I don't know if I could ever go back to a different phone. Before this I had the blackberry pearl, storm, and the HTC Hero. I loved my Pearl and disliked the others. Especially the HTC hero. It was terrible.

I ordered the iphone 4 today. I have been using a 3gs for 2 years and love it. I did have a hard time choosing between that one and the new Droid Charge. It looked very nice in the store. It also has the built in 32gb storage and is upgradable another 32gb (with a micro SD) and looks much more user friendly than the old style Droid....

We have android phones in our family -- HTC Thunderbolt. We live in a 4G area, and it is fast -- faster than my cable! I did not like the iphone's small screen. :goodvibes

I got rid of my cell phone about 7 years ago. I just recently broke down and got an iPhone 4. All I can say is, WOW. Amazing little piece of machinery. I can't believe the amount of things you can do with phones these days.

Skype does work on iPhone, you just need the skype app. I bought the kids ipod touch units a couple weeks ago, and now we call each other on face time constantly. That application might work for you and your husband, but hard to say until you try it out.

Hope the 8 months zips right by. Be sure to thank your husband for me and any other DISpatriots who realize the sacrifices service men and women make for us. I never get tired of saying or seeing others say thanks to our military families.

Thank you very much and we hope so too! I will pass it along. :thumbsup2 We just want to be able to use Skype so that we can keep in touch when we're not at home. We're hoping he'll also be able to "watch" the kids at their different games and events.

Which app did you buy that locks the phone? I've been having the same problem.

I have the Droid X and absolutely LOVE it!!!!!! No problems, battery lasts forever (unless I'm doing a lot of surfing or FB stuff on there), love the camera, and the bigger screen is awesome!!! :) I don't have any complaints with my Droid. :)

Does anyone use Skype on their phone?

Yup. I do :) Not often, but it's nice to have.

My screen was doing the same thing with not locking. I found that, when that starts, if I leave it out of the case overnight it helps. Not every night, just once when I notice a problem. Actually, I haven't dealt with it in a while and I assumed it was a glitch that they fixed in one of their updates.

I love my iPhone but DH just got a Droid through work. I have to say, I really (REALLY) liked playing with it on vacation LOL It's the screen, it is much larger and texting on it felt easier. Of course, texting on mine is easier when I don't have it in a big case (I use a Ballistic) but the day I left it out would be the day I dropped it and shattered the screen

The iPhone 5 will be out in September and the Droid 3 will be available to order tomorrow (and in Verizon stores by 7/14). No surprise there as to why the cut-off date for unlimited data was today. So one has to weigh having a newer, better phone vs getting unlimited data which they may or may not need (but will have peace of mind knowing they won't go over the amount).

I never came close when I had an android phone but now that I have an iPhone with the Netflix app I'm really glad I currently have unlimited data. I went from using around 400 mb of data per month to using 2.5 GB :rotfl:

Yes, we checked DH's usage and he never went over a half gig, even on his heaviest usage month. Of course, he has a blackberry. An i-phone/droid will be a much bigger bandwidth hog. Nevertheless, we decided to wait a bit for him.

Does anyone use Skype on their phone?

Yes. Especially when at WDW. We have friends in Europe that love Florida and WDW, but can't go as often as they'd like. I take them there via Skype. They can watch what I'm watching when I'm there. There is a new nighttime show at the Magic Kingdom this year. They project images of guest on the castle, with music, characters, etc. It's a great show, and I could let my friends see it firsthand, while it was happening. It's a great little Disney fix for those that need a little boost in between visits.

Not sure if I am late on this, but I love my iPhone. The only problem you might have it that the facetime only works when you have wifi (so you might be limited when you can talk to your husband). Also I my phone, I can intiate facetime calls, but I can recieve them, it is an AT&T thing I think becuase they couldn't fix it at the apple store.
