I was reading a website about the Droid builds and how they are suppose to interact with other Droids and interact in GE. The site said that they will not interact right away in the land because it will be too crowded with the opening of the land. Is this still the case?

I bought my droid during CM previews and bought a rebel chip for his personality. He reacted all around the land, making scared noises around first order area and happy noises in the market and resistance base area.
I took him again about 3 weeks ago and he still reacted to everything.
Tomorrow I'm actually bringing him to my sisters house, she has another droid and we will see if they interact with each other
BTW I don't believe you need to buy a personality chip for it to interact

Does anything need to be on Bluetooth? The article said it interacts via Bluetooth?!?

It uses blutooth- that's how the droid knows where it is and when another droid is nearby- but there's no settings like when you pair stuff with your phone. Just make sure your droid hasn't pulled a sad R2-D2 and gone into low power mode. :) It can be hard to hear my droid over all the noise sometimes, I wish he was louder. You don't need a chip. A chip changes the reactions. I plan on using a resistance chip after I'm completely familiar with the neutral reactions, and when I'm familiar with those maybe I'll go under cover with a first order chip and spy on them...

How do you know if it’s in low power mode?

That was a joke, there’s no low power mode. It does turn off automatically after 15mn (i think) of inactivity. Just turn it off and on. For the r-series, the switch is underneath; the b series is inside and people seem to think its a pain to get to.

Oh okay 🙂 The Boy is VERY CLEAR that he wants an R2 unit, which I am very glad about. They seem easier for smaller kids to use in general.

The 2 we built were beeping and heads moving at times crazy when walking about in Batuu and this was on opening day.....

We have both droids next to each other and I wouldn't call it interacting with each other. One makes noise 30 sec later the other makes noise

Add to that in my experience as we also have a R2 & BB unit that they not interact whatsoever with each other no matter where they are, something that the CM told us would happen when purchasing them at the Droid depot.....

The R2 units are sturdier, last longer and are much better "travelers" than the BB droids.

Hmmmm that BB unit we made for our son, who stayed home as 7 days away "was too long", seems to be pretty sturdy and is much funner to work and play with, it does take more practice to be able to keep its head on straight but is very doable. When going back and watching the movies, BB moves are very similar and Disney did a GREAT job with these things!

When you took it with you around Batuu did you carry it or was it moving along with you? I was wondering if they were allowed to be “out and about.” Seems like it could be a hazard.
I know they sell backpacks for them, too. Would you recommend one of those?
My DD16 has a ressie to build one and I’m sure she’s going to want to take it with her. Thanks!!

I did buy the backpack during cm preview, i believe they are sold out at the moment. You are not allowed to have them on the floor, rolling around.. you can have them in the box that's provided or bring a backpack of your own or carry it with your hands

Wife and I built two R2 units this past Wednesday. They do interact with each other. In fact, after we arrived home yesterday, they would not shut up. It isn't constant, but a couple times an hour one will beep and chirp and the other will do the same a few minutes later, and neither went into sleep mode all day.

We left them on until 8 PM. Turned them on this morning and they worked perfectly with the controllers, no pairing needed. The dog just does a head tilt when they start chirping(?) and I have to laugh as the R2 unit turns its dome and makes noises on its own.

Like the light saber, check the batteries.

I don’t know about interacting in the land because we were afraid the kids would be running it into people. But as far as the backpack, I would get one. We did not, initially, and the box broke on our way out of the park that night. We went back the next day for the backpack so we could get it home safely. My H used it as his carry-on on the plane home.
