Hello… I’ll be driving down from NJ (Near NYC) to WDW (AS-Music) in Sept/Oct 07. I’ll may be taking I-95 the entire way down and possible stopping after ~10 hours of driving.

I was wondering of it would be worth going over the Chesapeake Bay bridge/tunnel? So here are my questions…

1- Does the CBBT save time going down to WDW?
2- If so around how much time would it save?
3- How much is the B/T cost to drive?

I really want to see/go over and under this bridge (never did) it and was wondering if I should on the way down, or on the way back, or both. I may even bring my poles???

Thanks for any input and tips

CBBT is a sight to see. Even though the actual route is shorter than staying on 95, it is not a multi-lane highway. It is mostly a well traveled, road that's filled with lights. There are many businesses along the way, so there is a lot of traffic during the day. I have driven at all times of the day and night. If you plan on being on Route 13 during the night, the lights can be very favorable. During the day, midweek or weekend, can by annoying.

It has been an ongoing debate in my family, as to whether it is quicker to take Route 13 over the bridge, or take 95 (we travel from NJ to Norfolk, Va area)

You can have traffic on either route. 95 tends to have construction traffic.

The toll is $12. Here is the website - http://www.cbbt.com/

Without too much traffic, I suppose it would take you about 6 hours to get from where you are to the bridge. Once you hit the bridge, you'll have to probably go west to hit a major highway to continue south. That takes up some time.

I hope this helps somewhat.

You'd be wasting a lot of driving time going down route 13 through Delaware... There are a lot of traffic lights and speed limits of 45 -55 mph.

If its worth it to you do it, but i never would !!!! I want to get to WDW as quick as possible.

I'll only use that route to get to the Outer Banks in NC.

Thanks...YES I want to get to WDW as QUICK as possiable! and was not sure if going using the CBBT. maybe coming back.

I agree entirely. It will probably add two to four hurs to your trip.

If you really want to do it do it on the way home.

The ONLY time we did it to save time was once we were coming home during cherry blossom festival and all the radio stations were saying to stay away from DC.

It adds about 3+ hours to the trip, more if you stop to fish and/or gawck.

We've done it other times to just "do it."

If you have the time on your way home and you really have always wanted to got across, do it, it'll be something to look forward to on the trip home.

The traffic through the Norfolk VA area is a pain in the butt.
Plus there is all the aggravation of Route 13. Plan on a long weekend in the Tidewater area and use the bridge tunnel for that.
