We will be driving from WI to NY in June and looking for some ideas of things to do along the way - - - - anyone have any ideas let me know. Roadtripping with a 7 year old girl and my parents (60's)

What part of NY are you going to? Are you planning to stop and see the sights along the way (I mean like spend a day somewhere) to your destination or just stopping for breaks?

Where are you starting from in WI?

We travel to IN every couple of years and we drove out to CA a few years ago (drove thru WI) Here are some things we've done on our trips; most are off I-90 or not to far off ;others are off I70. Which way we go depends upon our mood:

Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in Cleveland, OH
We've taken a little diversion on our trip and drove up to see a couple of the Great Lakes. A little ways out of the way. We hit Geneva on the Lake to see Lake Erie, where there is a little town park where there was a play ground and a place to walk down to the shore - again free :thumbsup2 (there is also a state park), and on Lake Michigan we stopped in New Buffalo, where we waded in the lake toured the shops and had an ice cream.
Chicago, IL
The John Glenn Museum in OH
Cedar Point in Sandusky, OH

AND...Depending upon where you are going in NY:

Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown, NY (about an hour off I90)
Niagra Falls again about an hour or 2 off I90
Fort Ticonderoga (Northern NY near VT border)
Lake Champlain (Near VT Border)
Letchworth State Park (beautiful Waterfalls)
Delaware Water Gap

HTH

DD and I did MN >ME last summer (which included WI-NY in there :)

We stopped a day in Chicago (spent the night)- did the American Girl store and Navy Pier/Childrens Museum. Did the zoo in Cleveland and then Niagara Falls. (Spent the nights in South Bend, Erie and then Syracuse.)

We wanted to stop at the Jello Museum (I think it was in Batavia,NY) but it was closed.

We used our local science museum annual pass and picked places to stop along the way that honored it. (Niagara Falls didn't, but the others!) Free rest stops!:thumbsup2

We plan on stopping one night - over night... we would like to have some places to stop for quick breaks but would like something to do... for the experience... would like to have some fun places and ideas...

We are going to the NYC area

Ok, so you really won't be driving through NY state then, probably straight across rt. 80 in PA. It's a very scenic straight drive. Here is an exit guide. http://www.pahighways.com/ex.ts/I80exits.html

I would stop in Cleveland. It's about a 1/2 way point for a stay over, you could see the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
