Driving to VB from MCO - Anyone done it lately?

Wondering what the experienced might have to recommend as far as the best roads to take. We've only driven to VB twice and followed the directions Disney gives on the back of the confirmation letter.

Are there any road construction issues I should be prepared to deal with right now? Speed traps? We don't mind paying a few tolls, if necessary.

How long will it take on a Friday afternoon?

If all goes well, we'll be landing at MCO on December 5 at approximately 11:30 a.m. I'm estimating it will take 30-45 minutes to get our checked luggage and into our rental car. (My traveling companions just can't figure out how to do carry on for a whole week, even after I told them there is a washing machine in the unit). Is my "time in the airport" estimate reasonable? We have National's Emerald Reserve.

Is getting to VB in 90 minutes reasonable? Kind of hoping to beat VB by 2:00 p.m. Not a big deal if it takes longer. I just noticed that the VB annual meeting will take place that day at 2 p.m. We're not VB members, but it might be interesting to attend, anyway.

Thanks for any advice.

P.S. Maybe I'm nuts for even trying to make the annual meeting. My companions have never been to VB and perhaps they'd enjoy a more "leisurely" journey. Guess I'd better ask them - it's their vacation, too!

We drove from VWL to VB a few weeks ago.

I'd have to ask DH exactly what roads we took. It was a very peaceful drive! Hardly any traffic. I'll let you know what road it was when I ask DH.

As I recall, there was no road construction, we didn't see any police and didn't have to pay any tolls.

I know we passed the town of Harmony. This is a different way than we took before. We then got on 95 and took that until the roads for VB and crossed at 512 I think. We came in North of the resort by Orchid Island.

It is 96 miles form MCO to VB. It takes us about 1 hr and 20 minutes. We always use National's Emerald Aisle(carry-ons only for us to ).

We always use the directions on the confirmation, it is the most direct.We were there in July and we had no tolls or construction delays.

If you leave the airport by 12:00 noon you should have no problem making the VB Annual meeting. When we were there in July we landed at 11;30 am on a Saturday and we made it to VB by 1:30 pm.

I wouldn't worry about making the drive "leisurely" -- there is really not much from when you get outside of Orlando to when you reach Vero. 1 1/2 hours from MCO and 45 minutes in the airport sound like perfect estimates.
