We have a suburban and are a family of 7. We fill that thing up. 
The trunk space is very room. We can easily put our luggage back there when we travel but we usually only take duffel bags. It should have racks on top, you can get a roof top carrier or put a carrier on the back. We usually travel with a travel trailer so we don't keep much in our suburban but when we travel without it we have a rack that goes on the back that carries extra gear.
