driving to Edinburgh

Hi,
I was wondering if anyone could tell me how long the drive is from Manchester to Edinburgh. We're hoping to visit relatives this summer and the difference in cost of the flight is over $1200 if we arrive in Manchester rather than going directly to EDI.

Would you consider a train? Trains run from Manchester International into Edinburgh Waverley.

Yes, train, 28 pounds return pp on an advanced fare, driving in Edinburgh is a royal pita. Parking to consider as well, It would cost you that much to park in george street for a week.
I know because looked into train/fly or drive , were flying for 60 pounds return pp
