We are driving to Disney ( staying at the Cabins) in October(we are leaving Oct 24 and returning Nov 3rd) and we are taking hubby's truck because its diesil and is the most reliable. He is buying a bed cover so we will be able to store everything we need in the back. He said the best thing to use for clothes and stuff are the plastic totes JIC the truck leaks plus it is easier to pack. So far that means 4 totes of clothes ...a box of diapers and wipes, a bag with the pool stuff, the double stroller, the PNP ( I know they have 1 there but Chase is very mouthy so I would rather him eat is own!lol) Chases portable booster seat, a couple of coolers, a tote of food supplies ( sugar, coffee, snacks, and other stuff we need) plus hubby's tools....Do you think all of that will fight in an 8 foot bed?

Up front there will be the kids carseats, a small cooler for drinks, the dvd player and the kids toys... My major concern is that the cab is going to be too packed...

Any ideas to keep it more organized? We drove down with just emma a few years ago but there was only 1 carseat and it was tight. I have no idea how we are going to do it with 2!

We just drove down in December from Wisconsin, about 1200 miles one way. We also had 2 kids with car seats, with my daughter being 6 in a huge Britax Regent and my son was 2. We drove in a Cadillac Escalade filled with movies, coloring books, Nintendo DS's...it was packed to the hilt.

My advice for being organized? You're not going to be organized. For me, I made sure I kept my purse up front, so it was easy to pay for gas and the rest I let go. I am a huge clean freak and it was hard to do that.

Pack it as organized as you can so you'll have a good start.

Once we arrived at the hotel, my husband organized the car again as best he could, but on the way home it just got messier.

Have fun!

thanks. I would love to take the Yukon because it would give us more room in the car but then we wouldnt be able to fit as much stuff in the back. The problem is that hubby hates driving the yukon and it has issues and he doesnt want to have to fix it midtrip!

I completely understand where you're coming from. We had a minivan before and about a month before our trip, it was having some issues where we could've limped it along. I was freaking out because I knew we were driving to Disney and didn't want to break down, so we bought our Escalade.

Once you guys start driving down there, you will all be so excited you won't even care about the car being messy. :) Have fun!

Instead of totes, use laundry baskets. We drove to Florida from Mass. with 4 kids in June, the baby was 10 months old.
I used two laundry baskets, folded all the laundry. When we left my parents, I had all clean folded laundry to just put away, much easier than suitcases. If we drive in August to Disney I will be doing the same, because the laundry basket will be very handy when I need to do laundry.

I would just put the laundry baskets in Large Trash Bags in case the cover leaks.

And yes, I think it will all fit in an eight foot bed.

:rotfl: Hello again!!

We're getting ready to drive down in 50 days!! We're taking our minivan because it's more comfortable then our truck. I'm going to pack suitcases and pack towels in a laundry basket. Since we're hitting Wally when we get down there I'm not packing too much food for the ride down. I am bringing a cooler for drinks. We're hitting Cracker Barrels on the way down food meals because I work there and it's a lot of food real cheap.

I think you're smart to pack in tubs because then you can stay organized in the cabins and it gives you some tables for the kids to play or color on during down time. Also they are stackable so it's a space saver as well.

Remember you'll be near shopping so if there's something you don't hve to bring you can pick it up down there. Maybe only 1 brick of diapers.

I think you won't have enough room because no matter how much stuff you have it always seems to double once it's packed in there!:rotfl: I don't know how it happens :confused3 but no matter how much you pack there's never enough room.

How 'bout using a backseat organizer for Emma? They fit over the front seat and have bunches of pockets to fit toys, paper, crayons, etc.

I'm looking for a lapdesk for the girls.

Michael's has plastic trays that have side pockets on it on sale right now for $4.99. My DD loves them and they fit in the BMW/Durango. What is even better you can decorate them with paints.
