If we have a reservation at Chef Mickey's for breakfast can we drive there, go to breakfast and leave our car there and take the monorail to MK then back for our car later?

Only if you pay for valet parking. Otherwise you will have to move your car over to TTC.

And they just let you park if you use valet? Wouldn't lots of people just go there and park and pay $25 to be that close to magic kingdom??
Most people who have to pay to park would rather spend $20 for the main lot than $30ish for Valet.

Plus, the monorail from the Contemporary then stops at the TTC, the Polynesian, and the Grand Floridian on its way to MK. Not a particularly efficient use of time or money.

No, they would pay the cheaper fee to park at the TTC.

The Contemporary Resort parking lot (actually any Disney's resort lot) for all intents and purposes goes through different stages of closure depending on anticipated guest volume. The most common level has the guard telling you that you have three hours. In extreme cases the guard will expect you to make a U turn just past him unless you are staying at the resort or show proof of a restaurant reservation (ADR).

There is no time limit that day for valet parking unless the valet himself tells you so.

I see what you're saying- but here are my thoughts: to get to the contemporary from our hotel (BW) we either have to take a bus and change over, or walk to HS and take the contemporary bus- either way a long trip. Then we can monorail straight to MK and take bus back at end of day (not idea at the end of the day with 2 toddlers). Or we drive to Chef Mickey's and get the kids out of the car, then have our breakfast ,get them back in the car, drive to MK, get out of the car, onto the tram, then the monorail-then end of day back over monorail, tram and car!

Or we pay the $25 and we can just hop on the monorail, end of day we either walk (if kids are sleeping in stroller) or take monorail to contemporary and drive back to BW. I know $25 isn't cheap but it def is a convenience factor with my kiddos!

Neither of those options are the best way to manage this using Disney transportation.

You can just take the bus to MK and then walk to the Contemporary. Then, after breakfast, you can walk to MK. At the end of the day, you can take the bus back to BW.

Or, if you insist on driving, just park at the TTC and take the monorail to the Contemporary.

If you really wan't to spend $30 to valet park at the Contemporary that's fine, but you aren't really saving yourself that much time or trouble.

We had an 8:20 ADR at Chef Mickey then went to MK for the day. We valeted and went back for the car after midnight. We were staying off site though so we had to drive somewhere and I just decided to go right to the restaurant. We enjoyed taking the monorail after breakfast and also from MK back to the Contemporary at the end of our day. Since we were off site anyway the difference in cost wasn't that much and well worth it for us. Plus, I had put aside envelopes with the $$ for parking months in advance so I wouldn't have to worry about it and for some reason spending that money when it was already designated so long ago seemed to be a little less painful ;)!

In all reality, busing to MK from BW, then walking over to the CR is the best way! The walk takes under 10 mins. Get off the bus, follow the herd towards MK...when you get to the end of the bus area, on your right, with the monorail overhead, everyone will go left, you will go right. The sidewalk to the CR is right there, beneath the monorail line. You cross one street...has a pedestrian crossing button...and over to the CR.
