Hi guys,

We will be driving from San Diego area back to LAX for our flight home to NJ. :( If we give a 2 hour lead time at the airport we would need to be there by 1:30 on a thursday afternoon.

How much time should be count on to get from San Diego to LAX?:confused3
I can look at a mapquest sheet and see the times but I've NEVER been to CA and I understand the traffic is horrid and rush hour is basically all the time! lol..

Can anyone offer me advice?
thanks so much in advance! :hippie::goodvibes:love:

I believe at least two hours away. How ever leaving on thursday you will need enough time for the morning commute. I would leave as early as posible, that way your sure to be on time. With orange county traffic you could have delays from accidents. So dont stress yourself out arrive early and at least you can find some where to eat a mid morning breakfast and relax before your flight. Enjoy your time in SanDiego it is so beautiful and the weather is great. Jo

I'd give myself more than two hours for that drive. I'd leave at least three hours before I'd want to be at the airport. But then, I give myself two hours to drive from El Cajon (mom's house in East SD County) to Anaheim. I just remembered there are carpool lanes for much of that drive on 405 so maybe 2.5 hours would work.

I'd allow 2.5 hours to get from San Diego to LAX. On a Thursday, since you'd be leaving AFTER the morning commute traffic and BEFORE the afternoon commute, traffic shouldn't be too bad. There's some noontime traffic, but it's nothing like the morning/afternoon commutes. That's barring accidents, of course - and you never know when there's going to be an accident that will jam things up. If you want to be more sure about getting there but 1:30, then leave three hours earlier.

Thanks, this is exactly what I was thinking, I was hoping to thread the needle between the commutes but had no idea what else I might encounter... I'm sure I'll be up and ready to go that morning anyway. I appreciate all the feedback, we leave on the 22nd so it's coming soon, can't wait! :)
