Hey there! I'm just wondering if anyone has done their G license test recently.

My DD is going to take her G on Thursday. She's been doing some refresher 'research' and on one site it stated that, on the highway (401 here), she should be sure to "drive in the middle lane". Now, that is contrary to what I remember....drive in the right lane, pass in the left. BUT move to the middle at an interchange to allow for merging traffic. Which is correct?

She is also a bit confused with emergency parking on the 401-stop, hazards, emergency break is fine, but is she to undo seatbelt  Personally, I'd want to leave it on in case of being rear ended. :confused3

She has other stuff down pat: hands 10 and 2, looking in the mirrors every 10-15 sec, signal to change lanes etc, and I'm sure that she will do fine, but any advice would be welcomed! Thanks!

I just got my full G 6 months ago & passed on my first try.
401-Stay in the right lane. If you need to pass use the middle lane. I would never use the 3rd lane on a road test, they go way too fast & remember you are not supposed to go over 100 km/hr.
Emergency parking-You do not need to take your seat belt off. But you did forget one other important thing. Turning your wheels if you are parking up or downhill.
Good luck to your daughter!

Tim also goes for his G license test this week, on Wednesday. We've been doing a lot of practicing but he thinks he's going to "ace it". I'll be glad when it's over. ;)

When Dan did his he said he only lost points for not looking in his rear view mirror every 10 seconds.

I didn't know anything about the seat belt in a road side stop, so am glad to have that brought up here.

Just checked with DS. Leave the seatbelt on. Drive in the right lane unless you need to get over for a vehicle entering the highway. Be sure to use turn signal if you need to change lanes. Keep it at 100km - don't speed, don't go too slow. Remind her that a high percentage of people fail this test on the first try (I know a few. ;) ) Keeping fingers crossed. :goodvibes

This is a busy week for that girl! Tell her good luck from her favourite aunt! ;) And yes, I remember seeing a report years ago about how many people fail that test the first time through. Always seemed like a money-grab to me ... if they truly want to find the unsafe drivers, they should do some spot checks on people out there on the roads! :lmao:

Thanks. She had it down pat, but did the cardinal sin (I forgot to remind her ) NEVER, EVER, EVER, enter the intersection with a yellow light :sad2:. She has her birthday present (the extra $75) for her August 11 re-test. ;) And she is fine with it.

Our DS son passed his G test two weeks ago, but almost never got there. He arrived early for the test so decided to drive around looking for likely looking candidates to practice his parallel parking. As he was driving through the subdivision he failed to come to a complete stop at a 4-way stop sign and was nailed with a $110 traffic ticket. Then he proceeded to pass his test 20 minutes later. The ultimate irony...

Our daughter is scheduled for her G2 road test next week - can anyone provide any tips? It's been a couple of years since we've gone through the joys of the G2.

She's just one of the majority now. ;) It's just sad that she has to pay another $75. Like I said, they should try focusing on some of the drivers that have been on the road for years!

Huh?? They failed her for entering on a yellow? What if it wasn't safe for her to stop!? I'm sure they would've passed her if she had stopped and in turn ended up getting rear-ended  I swear they're just out to torture the poor teens...

Sorry to hear she failed! If that is the only thing she did wrong, then she should pass for sure next month.
