Hi. dh and I are thinking of taking the girls to disneyland for vacation this summer. we would be driving from Calgary AB canada and are looking for some tips.

we have never been to disneyland and haven't driven past the upper states of Washington and Idaho.

I need any and all information you helpful dis'ers can give us. we're planning to go either July or august. I have looked around a bit on here and notice it's not set up the same as the WDW boards so it's going to take some time for me to gather our information. I appreciate any help you can give.

thanks

Your best bet would be to find your way to the Peace Arch Border Crossing in White Rock, BC:thumbsup2 . Once you cross over the border you are on the I-5, and this highway will take you through WA, OR, and CA and right to DL. It's a 1300 mile drive from where I live (30 mins from the border). Will be visitng DL in Feb/09, and am planning on driving this route down. It's a 3 day drive, (or 2 L O N G days if you are feeling ambitious). We are planning on making it a 3 day drive to make things easier for the kids. Hope that this helps with your planning. I would also advise you to get a GPS system, as the potiental of getting lost at some point is a possibility. Have a great day!!

I've made the drive from Calgary to San Diego each of the last 8 years. 25-27 hours each way. We usually stay in either Great Falls or Butte depending on what time I get out of work on Friday. Then either Provo or Beaver the next night. It's just me driving. Arrive either Anahiem or SD Sun between 6-8 PM. It's a great drive, no highways to change until CA. Lots of scenery changes. Southern Utah is beautiful. The drive from Vegas across to Barstow can be pretty hairy, lots & lots of traffic & everyone wants to go way over the speed limit.
Anything else you want to know - ask away.

I also need to know best hotels to stay at (value or mod) kitchen is not necessary but would be nice to have a fridge at least.

endy where do you stay when you go that route? I need as much help as I can get and am very thankful dh is giving me 6 mths at least to plan it out!

If anyone else has any tips on what to see on our way down too we would like to make it a fantastic adventure for our 2 girls.

Hi Mrs Mouse
Actually we stay at KOA's (tenting) on the way down & in San Diego. Quite a few of them have camping cabins which are sometimes cheaper than motels. We usually stay in Mesquite MV on the way back. Rooms Sun-Thu are around $30. In Anaheim we've stayed at an rv park that has 2 tent sites.
We buy lunch type snacks at Walmart in Montana & my son usually has to eat every time we stop for gas.
I like to get there quick & spend an extra day or two driving back so we can stop and check out whatever we find interesting along the way.

I like the way you think..get there fast and then enjoy the time home....I never thought of tenting! I'll have to think about that some more! Thanks for the help so far!
