What is the most efficient way to get around from park to park and resorts? We are driving there, so we'll have our car and we are staying on-site so won't have to worry about paying for parking. TIA

IMO driving is more efficient, particularly for resort-to-resort travel. I've xne numerous trips with and without a car and now I wouldn't go if I couldn't have a rental car!

You didn't say where you're staying -- that makes a big difference.

In general, I'd say resort-to-resort (unless both are on the monorail) your better off using your car.

For the parks we do a little of both, but we much prefer taking bus or monorail to MK because they let you off at the park gates. For park-to-park transportation we prefer the buses and monorail, unless we don't plan to go back to the first park that day.

When going to visit the other resorts driving will be a lot faster, although it depends on where you are visiting. For example if you were to visit the Contemporary from there you can take the Resort Monorail to the Polynesian and Grand Floridian. Besides that if your visiting the Boardwalk from there you can walk to the Yacht Club, Beach, Swan & Dolphin. Now since your staying onsite you get free parking at the 4 parks, however the WDW buses will let you off very close to the gate entrances of the parks.

We always use the Disney transportation, and I drive to Disney so we always have the car and free parking. From All Stars, your only option is the bus. You can take the bus to one of the parks, and take boats or monorails to other resorts or downtown disney. It does take more time than by car, but I enjoy going by boat or monorail to another resort for dinner. It adds some fun for us.

As for the parks, we never had a problem in the morning with the buses. When the park closes, you will have a long wait for the bus and a crowded bus ride back to the resort. The AllStars have the biggest bus lines, next to Pop. However, if you drive to MK, you then have to walk or ride the transport to the ticket station, where you will then ride the monorail or boat to MK, which both will take some time.

We've done WDW three times now ...

First trip: we only used the buses and it was a pleasant experience.

Second Trip: we rented a car and did a combination of buses and car. We started to realize that by driving, we saved a GREAT deal of time.

Third trip: car only and it was FANTASTIC. We have a GPS and we were able to get to ANYWHERE we wanted fast and efficiently. We were always to our car quickly and back to the room without a hitch! We never stepped foot on a bus the whole time. No lines. No waiting.

I can't express more how great a car at WDW was for us!!!!!:wizard:

hope the last two replies helped. any more questions?

This is one of the most often debated topics in the transportation board.

On any given day at any given hour you might get there faster with your car or with a bus. There are just too many variables, which include

* How far away is your car parked at the hotel or park
* How long your typical wait is for a bus or boat

The clear winners are
* Going to MK is faster by bus becuase with a car you park by the TTC, take a tram, and then the monorail or ferry to the MK.
* Travelling from resort to resort is almost always faster by car, although you can leverage the monorail for MK resorts and International Gateway for EPCOT resorts
* Travelling from resort to resort is better using Disney transport if you'd like a bottle of wine with dinner
* Going to a park restaurant for breakfast before park opening time can be safer with Disney transportation as some guests report being held up in lines at the parking gates unable to get to the park entrance in time for breakfast

Generally, when switching parks, I'll drive. The only exception is on a day where I'm doing both Epcot and Magic Kingdom, I'll drive to Epcot and monorail to MK, even if I'm going to MK first. At least that way I don't have to deal with the tram.
