Earlier this month I was asking about what it would be like to drive on Christmas day. We were very nervous, not knowing what to expect in terms of getting gas and stopping to eat.
Well, yesterday morning we left the Disney Swan at 7:15 and arrived at home (in Indiana) at thirty minutes after midnight.
What we found was this:
--Gas was no problems, I would say at least 1/2 of the stations along the interstate were open.
--Food was different, most places to eat were closed, BUT all of the Waffle Houses were open, and we drove from Orlando, to Atlanta, to Nashville, to Louisville, and there was a Waffle House show up almost every 1/2 hour. So we were able to stop for both lunch and supper along the way. I did see a couple of Denny's that were open, but others were not. There was also a chain called 'Huddle House' (very much like Waffle House) that was open. But that was it.
--Driving was very nice. There were a lot of cars out, more than I expected, but hardly any trucks! So the traffic moved VERY smoothly! Even going through Atlanta (which is usually the most stressful part of our trip) went well.
We have decided to do this again nest year. We liked driving on Christmas day. It went faster and smoother than any of our other trips.
Just wanted to post this in case anyone else considers doing this next year (Christmas is on a Saturday next year).
Happy Holidays Everyone!

(BTW, Waffle House had a sign that said they were also open on New Years Day).
