Years ago, once you crossed into the state line in FL and stopped at the welcome center, there was a small place where you could make last minute Disney World reservations. Does this place still exist? I haven't driven in so long...I'm usually on a plane. :)

thanks,
Esmerelda

They're in Myrtle Beach too, you can go to look at timeshares for a "free" ticket to disney world for the day. I would make the reservation though before i drove down there, when you're tired from the (in our case 22 hours) drive the last thing one would want to do is go hotel searching.

The Disney Welcome Center (not sure if that's the exact name) is located in Ocala right off I-75. They'll still let you book resort res. and buy tickets; but the days of them offering dicounted resort rooms have long since passed. Ocala is actually aprox. 100 miles south of the GA border.

Never mind. Found it on the map. West and just barely south looks like. Is it usually mobbed? If I get there sometime between 8 & 9 am, anyone have any idea how long it might take to activate an AP? We originally planned to end our drive the prior day at Gainesville. It might be worth it to push on to Ocala and take care of the AP the night before we head on into Orlando.

this place closes at 5:00pm Eastern time and does not open until 9:00am eastern time the next morning.

It close to early and open to late for it to be useful to us.

Ocala is only like 40 miles from Gainesville. So it will only be another 30 minute drive. The Disney Welcome Center is at the second Ocala exit I believe. Exit 350 There is a big sign you can't miss it. Once you come off the interstate and go right it is like two red lights down on a side street. Very close to the interstate.

It wasn't busy the day we were there but it was in February. I'm not sure but I don't think they open until 9AM.

Your only like an hour or hour and half to Disney from Ocala. Depending on how you come into the Disney area. I usually take I75 down to the toll road and then take the toll down to highway 27 and then come down to hwy 192 and come in that way. Usually takes about an hour and 15 minutes if you don't catch too many red lights. (Only $1.25 in tolls)

I'd rather do that than to circle around Disney on the toll roads and pay all those tolls. But that's me.
