No, not driving to FW :sad2: but the sister unit has to fly from central FL to New Orleans to drive to Mobile to be with the college student when she has some minor surgery. Anyone who drives this route--what advice, directions, support can you give? She doesn't like to drive over bridges, but I've already told her it looks like she'll have to just deal!! :rotfl2:

Now to get this back on FW track--I sure do miss the fort!!! Oh, well, I'll be back there soon, I hope!

There are no direct flights to Mobile from Central Florida? That surprises me. There are flights that go direct from Pensacola to Orlando and being a bigger city I would think Mobile would have direct flights also.

The most direct route is Interstate 10. I-10 runs from NOLA to Mobile. But bridges are a fact of life with this route. Many small ones and about 3 or 4 long to very long ones. Another route she could take, although much slower, is Highway 90. Highway 90 has fewer bridges but is much slower especially in Biloxi and Gulfport. Mostly due to casino traffic. This can be really heavy anytime and is much worse on the weekends.

Another good place to fly to would be Gulfport. That is another very easy drive.

The best route from the New Orleans Airport (MAF) to Mobile is I-10 to I-610 to I-10. The longest bridge that you will have to cross is the I-10 twin span between New Orleans and Slidell. It's around 5-7 miles long. It is one of the bridges that was washed out by Hurricane Katrina but has since been repaired (you may not want to tell your sister that). The eastbound span is fine, I drive on it everyday. The westbound span is ok too but it has some temporary "erector" set spans that freak some people out. From New Orleans to Mobile will take about 3 hours. I wouldn't recommend highway 90 for people who are not familiar with the area especially since Katrina.
