Driving with two small boys, going straight through is not an option.
Where is a good place to stop off of 95...looking for a clean, but CHEAP, hotel. Don't need frills, just clean. Would like to do more driving on the first leg (maybe about 9 hours.) Any suggestions? THANKS!

Have you considered taking the auto train. The deals for the summer are kids ride for $19 and you wont have to worry about driving and finding a hotel.

What I do is google maps to find the place that would bring me close to the time I want to spend driving. Then I use tripadvisor. From what I see you would be stopping somewhere near Savannah. Good luck, we drove in April with our 18 yr old, 14 yr old and 3 yr old in a Sonata, and would do it again if we needed to.

We did look into it, but we need a car once we're there...thanks!

We've driven a few times from Norfolk, Va and have stopped in Santee, SC and Pooler, GA. (near Savanah)
We've done Priceline before for Pooler and got Jamerson Inn. It was clean and right off the Interstate. I think theres a few more hotels in that area. It really isn't that bad of a drive. We usually try and make as few of stops as possible. Usually it's NC welcome center. Then we make it past SOB to the SC visiters center. Then probably a gas stop, then we are in Pooler, GA.
On the way back we stayed at a Country Suites and Inn somewhere in GA off the Interstate. It was around $90 bucks, but had your continental breakfest.
Since I'm such a HUGE fan of Priceline, I hate paying full price for a hotel room. Then again, It probably all averages out. Good luck.

I was in a rush earlier so I didn't get to type a full response. The auto train takes you and your car from Lorton, VA to Sanford, FL. It is about 25 minutes from Disney in good traffic.

I use it pretty regularly and since you are in Woodbridge, you are literally one exit away from the train station.

The food is fairly decent on the train and you can load your car with all your stuff.

PM me if you have any questions.

We're west of Richmond, Va, and always stay at the Best Western in Richmond Hill, Ga. It's one of the exits for Savannah. This Best Western is right off 95. It's a nice new clean hotel, and has free breakfast. The next day, it's about a 5 hr drive to WDW.

Hi! We're in PWC too--we live in Bristow, but Dh works at Quantico. :thumbsup2

One time, we left direrectly from Dh's work (around 4 pm) and ended up stopping late at night in Florence, SC. There are tons of hotels there, but we stayed at a Springhill Suites. Lots of Chain hotels, restaurants, etc at that exit, so it was a good stop.

The last time we went, we left from home around 4 am and drove straight through. We arrived in the Orlando area around 8 pm.

We drive straight through from Hampton Roads..... but we may stop on our way back this time.... LOL

We drive down from Fairfax VA alot (with little kids) and we always stop in Savannah, GA at the Wingate right off of I-95 - there are a bunch of restaurants right by (we usually end up at Cracker Barrel) and then it is less the 5hrs in the morning. Now that the kids are a little older we tend to drive straight through down and then leave later on the way back and stop a few hours in for the night!
This November though we are taking the Auto Train down bc we got a good rate on it. We have done this two other times and the kids love it.

We drove from MD and stopped in Brunswick, GA at the Hampton Inn. It had an indoor pool and the kis could let off some steam, and it included breakfast. It was about 3 ours from there to WDW.

Country Inn and Suites at the airport exit for Savannah is roughly 9 hours from Woodbridge, if you do a few gas and potty stops along the way. If you book in advance, you can get a room as low as $69 with breakfast. There is a Walmart and several other hotels as well as some food places at the same exit. We stayed there a couple of weeks ago and it was very clean and comfortable, with inside corridors for extra safety.

We always stay in Kingsland, GA. They have plenty of hotels in the area...we stay at the Microtel. Its a pretty new hotel and its 50 bucks a night cant beat that. They have some restaurants, Walmart everything. Best part next day is less than a 4 hour drive to Disney. We grab a quick free breakfast and head out and we are at our hotel by 9AM love it.

we normally just drive straight through, but on the occasion that we have stopped, we usually try & make it a long drive day & then stop in jacksonville Fl which is just a few hours from orlando. We stayed in a Holiday Inn and it was clean and safe.

my sister has driven from Va Beach to Lorton & taken the auto train down several times (with her vehicle) and loves it.

Enjoy your road trip.
