We've been to WDW many times, but I've never been the one driving the rental car from the airport to the resort, so can someone tell me if it's pretty straightforward? I'll be arriving with our kids a day before my husband and then leaving a day after him also and will need to pick up the car and return it. I know the rental company gives directions and a map, but my experience in the past has been that it seems easy when they tell me...but....!!! Are there any road closures/detours that I need to be aware of? We'll be arriving August 8th and returning August 14th. I'll need to pick my husband up at the airport on the night of the 9th, around 11:00 pm, so that's why I'm really hoping to have clear, straightforward instructions! (I've tried to convince him to let me and the kids take a towncar and he can pick up the rental, but he's not going for that!) Thanks for your help!

Ruth :)

Probably winding your way through the airport will be the hardest part. Once you're in the car and looping around MCO take the SOUTH EXIT (417 Greeneway toll road) After clearing airport propety the exit road will merge with Boggy Creek Road. The exit road will enter Boggy Creek as the left lane, you must get into the right lane to enter 417. There will be two toll booths on the way to WDW, $1 each. Since I stay at OKW, I take the first exit after the second toll booth - Downtown Disney and International Drive. Just continue going straight, you'll pass I-4 and enter Disney property.

Although the Greenway is unquestionably quicker and simpler, there is one reason you might want to take the Beeline (north exit from MCO) - as you drive along, there are lots of billboards with images of various WDW (and Universal) attractions. You can have a lot of fun with the kids - "look, it's the Tower of Terror! There's Test Track! . . . . "

If you're not arriving at a time when traffic is a problem, taking the Beeline to I-4 to Exit 26 might be fun, and not all that complicated.

(Of course, in the early morning, driving the south airport exit and along the Greenway, with those lovely, quiet ponds with the mist hanging over them is quite lovely itself.)
