We are going to take Rt 41 down into Kentucky on our next trip....Rt 41 is a 4 lane divided highway that heads straight south, compared to I-57 that goes pretty far west.. Though there will be areas such as Terre Haute, IN and Evansville, IN where we will lose time, the distance travelled is close to 50 miles shorter.. We went from Kentland to Terre Haute the other day, a drive of about 100 miles, and we were able to go 70 MPH and never hit a stop sign the entire distance..

Anyone else ever try this???

Small world I live in Kankakee. We usually travel that way when we go to the Covered Bridge Festival. I know that I hate that drive down 57. I would do anything to avoid it! Have you checked out the airfare we are getting round trip tickets to Orlando in Oct for $115 from Midway. My dad got them from Indy for $95. Good luck! :flower:

TMA (iflytma.com) flies to Orlando out of Rockford, Illinois (west). We pay $79 each way during June/July. with the price of gas and time, it's worth checking out. We drove straight through once and hated it. Instead of 20+ hours via auto we are in our resort rooms 4 hours from the time we take off. Rockford is a fantastically efficient airport. Free parking. Quick checkin. The extreme opposite of Ohare in every way. :earsgirl: :earsboy: :earsboy: :earsgirl:

:) Hi, we've driven that way many times to visit my sis in evansville. I beleive the posted speed limit is 55. I remember often seeing cops along the way watching speeds. My sister also got a ticket on her return trip.Be on the look out if you plan on going 70. Just an FYI. Good luck. :earsboy:

You got lucky.

On several trips from Central Illinois to Evansville, we took I-74 to 41 and took that south through Indiana. It wasn't bad but it can take forever to get through Terre Haute, especially during the afternoon rush hour.
