Driving from SF to DLR

Have one parent stay in the car while the other goes and checks in.....then take the kids directly to the room and have the bellhops follow.......your car can stay in the drop off zone while you get them into the rooms so bellhops/parent can get the remainder of the luggage and then be parked.

Basically do whatever you can with the kids still asleep and the rest do as quickly as possible......my guess is if the 7 month old does wake up it wouldn't be so bad.....they'd doze back off pretty quick.:confused3

As far as the drive my suggestion would be to leave at about 6 or 7pm and go 580 to 5. Traffic really isn't too bad then unless there was an earlier accident.

As far as checking in with the kids at night, I would bypass the stroller and just carry the kids in, and then have one of you go back to deal with the luggage after the kids are snug in their beds.

Hmmm... well I think if DH thinks he can sneak out early then we may try for the Sunnyvale/101 route - no WAY I am driving 580 at 4pm, I know that will be a huge mess.

If he has to leave at 6 or after then we might just leave from SF and go 580. I was hoping to have about 3 hours done before the kids fall asleep - I think they will sleep 3-4 hours in the car seat, but not sure about 5 or 6.

As for checking in, we will just have one of us check in and then grab the kids out and dump them in the beds, and deal with the luggage after that (or even in the AM). They will wake up surely, but I am not worried about their going back to sleep. There is no way we can break the drive up because we only have Fri-Sun as it is! :) I would love for DH to take Friday off and leave super early, but that isn't going to happen. :(

Thanks!!
Kim :)

Yes, we do stop midway for the night with a 3 year old and a 7 month old. I'm afraid to try the night driving. What do you do when you check in (staying at DGC)....don't they wake up (I think my 7 month old would explode in tears being taken out of a car seat at midnight). I'm just afraid to try. I'd love to hear how you check in - put them in strollers for the trek to the hotel room, unpack the cars with the bell men etc with little ones. We stay half way along the coast to get a few beach hours in before sunset and a walk after breakfast then we are off for the remaining 3-4 hours. We did drive 101 the whole way from San Jose last time and it seemed to take 8 hours at least with the trek to the coast at San Simeon. I'd be curious to try the night drive next visit (so next August after this upcoming trip)....I'd welcome night check-in logistics with little ones in strollers, car seats etc.

I would have no clue how to handle that. Leave them in the car? :rotfl: Kiddddding. A stop on the coast sounds lovely. If you still want the beach pictures, staying on 101 might be the easiest so that you don't have to find a way to get over from 5.
