We are thinking about driving to Disneyland from Oklahoma. Any advice on what to expect traffic wise. What is the best route? Is a certain time driving in better? Thanks for any advice. We are planning for June 2012.

Because of a long drive the only things I would worry about is where I40 and I15 merge. In Barstow there can be a traffic jam when people are returning to LA from LV. This can be from noon to night on a Sunday. In the opposite direction going back it can happen between 5pm and night on Fridays. It due to heavy car traffic going to from LV and heavy truck traffic coming on off the I40.

My main concern would be about June 2012 and if or if not Carsland will be open. And if so the crowds it will bring to DL.

Good luck!

DH and I are going to WDW... definitely decided not to drive. :)

Did go to Pasadena, CA once with my high school band. Not the easiest drive. :)

i am by no means a SoCal freeway expert... but i have driven from west texas 5 times and planning the 6th in 4 weeks. we go straight across on I-40 until we get to Barstow. then you get on the 15 south. in 2009, i went with just my 3 daughters and i loved the ease of 15 south to 210 west to 57 south to exit on katella.

have fun planning!! :goodvibes

Absolutely true! Don't underestimate the affect of Vegas traffic on the I-15 all the way through the Cajon pass. If you can plan yoru schedule to avoid those times mentioned by skiingfast, do so.

We drove from Oklahoma last year in July and are leaving in five days to do it again. We experienced absolutely no travel issues going to anaheim on the way out there.

We traveled 1-40 from Amarillo west to Barstow. We live in NW Oklahoma so we went down through pampa to get to Amarillo.

Even the L.A. area traffic was fairly light the Saturday we arrived.

Now, leaving L.A. the following week it took us 4 hours to drive about 20 miles. It was pretty hectic all the way to Barstow but then thinned out as we left Barstow(but we went to vegas from there)

Going to California from Kingman,AZ on is one hot drive and alot of desert so be prepared.

You can get pretty good rates at the Hotel/Casinos in Laughlin Nevada, about 20 miles north of I-40 at the Arizona/California border, which is the Colorado River. Most of the casinos are on the river, including our favorite - Harrah's. No need to gamble. Very good buffet at Harrah's.
