Hello there,

We are thinking of driving from Moncton,NB to fly out of Boston/Manchester with Southwest, it's a 7-8 hour drive and would save us $800-$1000 so it is woth it but the thought of driving,YUCK! We could leave at night so our 3 boys would sleep?? then on the way back we may take a day or so to drive back ,we may drive up to Bar Harbour, I hear it's a cute place! This all depends on if we buy a used van this week, we really need a second car!

We just did the drive from Fredericton to Boston to go to my sisters at Christmas (not to save money, but because Delta computers crashed Christmas day, and there was no other way to get there!)

The drive wasn't as bad as I thought it would be, and we didn't even stop at all (except for gas) because we were scared we would miss our flight!

THere are rest stops once you get past Portland right off the highway, but the way to Bangor from Houlton is pretty desolate! You need to get gas in Houlton, because you wont see much until Bangor again!

We have a portable DVD player that was worth it's wait in gold for the boys, ages 7and10. they watched spongebob for 8 hours straight!

Bar Harbour is cute , but in the winter, I don't think I would waste my time going (it is an hour out of the way). It is definetly worth a trip in the summer. If you just want to stop somewhere cute for a break, try Freeport, just south of Portland. It has the LLBEAN store, it is open 24hrs, and the kids store has a climbing wall. THe Freeport Inn usually has good rates.

GOod luck! and have fun!

I think we're going to do this for our trip to Las Vegas Baby;)

Jet Blue has some great fares...and the kids are going to be dropped of at the Grandparents in NB on the way...

Keep singing Celine - we're on our way!!LOL!

Bar Harbor is lovely in the summer.
Are you planning to drive in the winter?...I think I'd drive during the daylight, and book a hotel at the BOS airport....then catch that early am flight out:) You'll be rested to start WDW!

My aunt and uncle drive down every winter from Fredericton. They have always said that the best thing to keep in mind is check your gas tank regularly and keep your eyes out for rest stops!

Let us know how the drive goes!

It will be in the summer, do not want to deal with driving in the snow!

Which airlines should we check out? Can my TA book these for us so it's smooth sailing, what about customs, just crossing the border????

:moped:

If you are willing to drive all the way to Boston, look into Manchester NH instead because Southwest Air flies out of there, and it is about the cheapest way to go. Also, the parking would be cheaper at the airport maybe, because Boston is expensive.

BOston is also a headache as far as airports go. Lots of teminals, etc.....

ANyway, just a thought.

We are going in March, and are flying on Delta out of Portland Maine. It saves a few hours off Boston, and the shopping in Portland is great!

We are paying around 300 cnd per person for flights , sat to sat , during march break, so I am pretty happy with the cost.

However, after being on Southwests web site, I would defineltly check them out first.

Customs at Houlton is usually pretty good. Just don't take any beef, even hot dogs, or fruit that is not allowed (most citrus), and if you do have apples or grapes , bananas, you need a sticker on them that says their country of origin. ( a customs guy once took grapes from my kids, as they were eating them!)
