Is there anyone from nc driving to disney? If so where do you stop to rest for the night? We are coming out of greensboro !!!

Looks like we are trying to make it to Augusta GA that would be over half way .... :)

We leave our home in Greensboro at 2:00am and drive there in about 10-12 hours depending on how many stops that we make. In Dec. it took us 11 hours and we were there by 1:00pm and our room was ready at the AKL.

I took the children swimming and my husband slept until around 5:00. We just enjoyed the resort that day and he was fine and ready to go the next morning.

We drove from Asheboro on Thursday June 3 leaving at 5:00 pm. We stopped overnight in Kingsland, GA at the Country Inn & Suites, arriving 11:10 pm. The next am, we left at 9:30 am and arrivied at OKW at 1 pm. The trip was much easier than I had expected. we caught I-95 at Florence and then I-4 in FL. On Sunday, we left at 8:00 am and arrived home at 6 pm--we are speeders and we made very few stops!!

Greetings,

Last trip (Xmas) we left from Sanford, NC (not far from you) in the morning and stayed in Jacksonville, FL that evening (Hampton Inns). Although we were excited to get to Disney as fast as possible, we have a young duaghter and though it would give us a good break. The following day, we had a short drive, checked in to OKW and hit Magic Kingdom to make sure we knew we were really there. On the way back, we left very late and stayed in Savanah, GA that evening and then had another short drive the next day. This time (we are leaving in 32 days), we are driving straight through (think it is about 10 hrs.). Don't know which is better yet..........Hope you enjoy!

Just to throw out more numbers:

Our trips start just outside of Winston-Salem, and following 77-26-95-4 it is just over 600 miles, driving time (with very limited stops) of just over 9 hours in very good traffic.

When driving straight to WDW, we follow almost the same plan as pirateofthecarolinas. That short afternoon nap is needed, and it's just enough sleep, and it doesn't throw off the normal night's sleep routine.
If I sleep too long that first afternoon, I have trouble getting back to sleep that night, just like flying cross-country or something.

Interesting to see how the different people plan and travel.

I will be leaving from just outside Winston Salem as well, towards the Yadkin county side. We will not get to hit the road till probably around 2pm at the earlier on a Sunday due to a family reunion. The plan is to drive straight through and hopefully arrive in Orlando around 12am. We have a hotel ready for the one night before checking into OKW the following day. I much prefer to leave earlier in the day but that family reunion and all that good food is hard to resist!

Hi to all....Danville here real close to Greensboro,
Last year we drove straight thru, quite a few stops here and there to stretch our legs, grab a bite to eat so forth. DH and myself would take turns driving ds who was 8 at the time handled the ride very well.
Hope you have a great time!!

We leave out of Wilmington around 10-10:30 PM every year I like to drive at night and let everyone else sleep the traffic and temps are so much better too. We get to the resort around 07:00-07:30 every time Only once out of the last 6 yrs has the room not been ready. Last year we waited until 09:30 for the room.

Concord here...

We take 85-77-26-95-4. The drive is around 9 hours with 2 - 3 stops. We have never spent the night on the way down. We have departed at all different times, but i think my favorite is around 2 am.

We occasionally stop on the way home. Last time we had a heck of time finding a hotel room on a Friday night. I don't remember where we were.. somewhere in SC on 26. Next time I may call ahead if we start getting tired. It is simply to keep the AAA book in the car. Well. if you can find it under all the Disney bags!:D

Good to see all the triad people in here...

We thought about driving, but decided to fly out of GSO. Delta has some good n/s flights that only take 1 1/2 hrs. :)

If not for wanting a car down there I would fly as well. Saw some real good deals on round-trip flights to Orlando. Yes, I know I could rent a car, but that would just had to the expense! lol
