Hi-

We usually fly to Orlando from Grand Rapids. But we are considering a trip to Hilton Head next year. How is the drive? Any suggestions as to the best route? Thanks, Cathy:goodvibes

We take this route each year and know it very well but I am not sure which part of Michigan you are coming from. If your route comes anywhere near Cincinnati on the way to HHI then I can help. If not, I don't want to waste your time. HHI is wonderful, I hope you love it as much as we do.

Edited to add: oops! Saw it is Grand Rapids. I googled it and it has you taking a different route than we take. Sorry I am not too helpful. Enjoy your visit, it's lovely.

We went from Chicago to HH last month. We really liked it there. We stayed at the DVC, and it was a beautiful resort. The island has lots of activities, and the beach is very nice.
I can't remember all of the roads, but the only place we had problems was on 40 near Asheville. It was recently closed due to rocks falling on the road. It was reopened when we went last month, but was still one lane for several miles. It was fine going down, but coming back we got stuck in traffic for about 2 hours. Not fun as dd1 was sick, and dd3 was sick of being in the car.:lmao:
We took 80/94 to 65 thru Indy and Louisville. We then went through Knoxville, (not sure what road it was) over to 40 thru Asheville. We took a detour to my friends in Charlotte, so the route was different. We then went thru SC on to HH. Sorry this isn't much help, but it was a very pretty drive, especially thru the mountains. On the way back, GPS said it was about a 14 hr drive. It became much longer with the construction on 40 and an accident near Asheville too.

Good luck, it's a fun place to visit.
