Has anybody driven from Massachusetts to HH? We are thinking about driving this year instead of flying. We are going in June, a Sun-Fri so we would have plenty of time to drive. The flights are just so expensive and we have to rent a car anyway so we are planning to rent a minivan from Mass (ours is old and I don't want to put the miles on it) and drive to HH. If we do drive, we will want to stop and stay over night somewhere instead of driving right through. Any suggestions??

We drive once a yr to wdw and once a yr to hhi from central jersey [and a bunch of times each yr to our house in maine]; so I am gonna guess that you will want/need to stop somewhere between Emporia, VA and Rocky Mount, NC.

Check out these links to see what info might be a help to your planning:

I use the first one all of the time whenever we have to travel by car!

We have driven from Natick to HH and WDW multiple times. (We just got back yesterday from WDW) It is 1000 miles to HH from here. Driving time is ~16-18 hours. If you are brave enough you could drive straight thru, but we usually stop around Washington DC. The exact midpoint is around Richmond VA.

If you can time leaving well, you can go straight thru New York City, over the George Washington Bridge. Earliest I would leave is 8:00. I am not an early riser. I go Mass Pike, 84 to 91 to 95. The most difficult part of the drive is between here and Virginia, because of the amount of traffic. South of Richmond and the Carolinas are fairly easy, unless you hit traffic volume. Rt. 95 down there is only two lanes and it can get pretty congested.

Gas was cheaper in New Jersey and the Carolinas.

Go for it and have a great time.
