We will be at DL in June for four days. I was thinking of taking my two older kids to Universal Studios for one day while DH stays at DL with 8 yr old (they don't care about Universal's rides). Now here is my question how hard/easy is it to drive from DL to Universal Studios on my own (w/out DH who is usually my chaffeur!)? Keep in mind that I am the type that gets lost easily. Is it straight freeway? Or is there some shuttle bus service we should take?! TIA for your advice.

Just get on I-5 north, follow I-5 and then take 101 North and get off on Universal City Drive. Follow the sign to Universal Studio. It is not a bad drive at all. Then do it in reverse on the way back, just get off I-5 at Harbor blvd and you will be back to Disneyland. Go to www.mapquest.com and put in start and ending address and you can print a map as well, even though you really don't need it.

Make sure your kids are wearing swim suits under their clothes, and pack flip flop sandals for them. They will not wish to miss out on the fun at the Nickelodeon Soak Zone, and they will get soaked. They have to wear shoes, that is why we bring flip flops for that area.

Thanks for your advice - sounds like it may be doable for me! Now I need to look for tickets on the web. Thanks

Oops - thought of something else - how long will this drive take? What about rush hour on the way back to DL? I assume that if we stay late enough we can miss rush hour though.

The trip will take about 1 hour. If it's a weekday, I'd suggest leaving DL after about 10am and returning after 7pm. You should miss most of the traffic that way.

We did the same drive on Sunday morning, traffic was fine, made it from Newport Beach to US in under an hour, also came back at 5pm in the afternoon and again traffic was OK.

PS It's very easy to find and we are from the UK :-)

I know the Airport Bus used to have shuttle service from the Disneyland Resort to Universal Studios. I don't know if they still do that since they've moved their Anaheim Shuttle Depot.
