We're going to be driving to WDW for the first time next month. We live just south of DC in Northern Virginia and plan to leave early on a Friday morning (getting on I-95 in Fredericksburg). What things should we look out for? Any major traffic areas that we need to avoid as we head south into the afternoon rush hour? How many hours can we expect the drive to take? There will be 2 of us taking turns driving. We hope to make it straight through with only potty and snack breaks. Are we crazy? Any must do's along the way? On the return trip we'll have a little more leisure time to stop off and see a few things.

I'd plan on a 12-15 hr trip from northern Va. to WDW.Plan on leaving early and I would use I-295 around Jacksonville the traffic there can be brutal. On your way back plan a beach day at Hilton Head or Myrtle beach the kids will love it.

I would also say about 13-15 hours. One word of caution: watch out for 'construction' on I-95 near Kings Dominion. I traveled to North Carolina a few weeks ago and was stuck for two hours. The worst part is that there was NO reason for the back-up! There was a sign that said "right and center lanes closed ahead". People started merging to the left lane only to find that there were no lanes closed at all! It was ridiculous!
