Is Macon, GA a good place to stop for the night? Any insight on how safe the area is???

Thanks!

I'm not sure where you are in Chicago area. I'm in the south suburbs, and that can make a difference because if you come from the north, you'll waste a lot of time going through the Chicago area.

We drove last Xmas and stayed overnight in McDonough, GA which is just south of Atlanta. We arrived there at about 7:00 pm. Macon is a bit past that but would be fine too. That puts you more than halfway there.

For what it's worth, McDonough was nice.

Thanks! I am coming from the North Burbs, leaving around 4am, hoping to get away from the Chicago Traffic early enough for it to not be a problem. Thanks for the info. on McDonough. I'll check it out!

When we have stopped for the night its either been around Macon or Valdosta. I always try and make Valdosta for the shorter trip in the morning. Unfortunately the family sometimes over rules me:confused3
