Hi,

we've just booked to fly into Atlanta so that we can use our Airmiles (there was no avilability for Orlando, Tampa or Miami!!) and got a really good deal.

Has anyone ever driven from Atlanta to Orlando before, and any suggestions of where to stop for lunch en route?

Thanks in advance.

Not done it but its something I have considered. We also have friends near Charlotte, NC Airport so would consider flying into there and driving down.

Hiya,
My husband has family in atlanta and we've done the drive down to florida many a time.

Takes about 8 hours

We ususally stop at Adel at the IHOP there which is really quite. Also any cracker barrel is a favourite of ours.

Did the drive about ten years ago and it does take 8 hours:scared1:

We decided to stay in Macon for the night before driving the rest of the way down. Due to jet lag we were in bed really early and up at the crack of dawn so got on the road before the traffic built up. Can't remember anything bad about the journey so it can't have been that bad:banana:.

We have also flown to Orlando from Atlants and whilst it's a hassle to change it only took around an hour once we were in the air. If there's a load of you a night in a motel/hotel and a van will probably cheaper than another flight, and if you go with a different carrier you may have a problem with luggage allowances:scared1:

Good luck

I'm doing exactly the same route in July, stopping in the Holiday inn express on arrival in Atlanta then driving down the next morning, Adel looks like a good halfway point to stop but I'm sure there will be plenty of truck stop areas along the way.

Hi all,

thanks for the comments - I must admit I was hoping to hear "you'll do it in 6 hours!" but at least I'll be expecting the worst now!

Thanks for the tip on Adel - I'll check it out.

Hi there,

We drove down from Atlanta to just South of Tampa last May. We set off around 09:30, and arrived around 19:00. We took our time and stopped 2 or 3 times on the way. Just pick up the I75 and drive and drive and drive !

There are plenty of stops for food etc. so just enjoy the ride !

Have a good time

Barrie

Hey! We live in North GA near the TN line and we drive every year to Disney. Stopping in Adel is a good idea. We have stopped at that IHOP many times. Our entire drive takes about 9 1/2 hours and we are north of Atlanta.:drive:
So I do believe you can do the trip in 8 hours maybe a little less if you don't stop often.
We will be making the trip again this year!!
