Driving down to Mickey's for Christmas!

:scared1:I did not realize you were so close to the ocean! Too bad I could not go get your MIL in Denver...I am a little closer and my family is all there. If she needs something let me know, I am sure one of my sisters or my mom could help her...yes we are strangers but I hate to think of your SIL driving from Idaho with a baby! Just let me know I will PM you my phone number in case you need us to do something for her.

I really hope and pray you are alright!

Thank you Ann! I really do appreciate it!

Yeah I live in the Village of Mastic Beach which is a private village in Mastic Beach, NY right on the water. I am 3 blocks from Smithspoint (where flight TWA flight 800 went down).

A storm update----
This is what we have been looking at for about 2 hours
movienights043.jpg

It's just drizzle and rain and mind you this is where they said it's going to be really bad. Phone calls from Damien have told me that it's pouring where he was taken. I sent him there thinking that it was safer. Well when I tried to get there I was turned around, we can't leave where we are because the major highway to get there is blocked (they don't want anyone going near the city) and the side roads are flooded. So he's there and calling me every.... 10 minutes:confused3... I'm happy to hear him, I just want him to charge the phone in case something happens.... well that's hard to explain to a 6 year old. So I am hoping that he listens to me and stays in the study and drinks water and stops playing with flashlights and talking on the cell phone. But nothing much. We are stuck with some good neighbors though- a chief firefighter, a nurse, 3 ambulance workers and a village official! I am very bored though and hope that it stays boring and it dies down before it gets here. So anyway, on to the movie post and then to check in with other PTR's:goodvibes

I was saving this movie for when the weather got better and we were all safe so we cold go to the Indian restaurant or have my MIL cook and watch it with her, but with everything going on Damien was crying and screaming and scared- he called 911 2 times while we were outside to report that it was raining and we were still in the house. So at that point we sent him to my in laws while we stayed to finish the prep.... Before Damien left we did lots of things for this movie to try to keep him preoccupied!

All of us woke around 5-5:30 am to start the work so I made chai tea and Prathas (indian pancake- I don't make these from scratch they are very hard, I buy them pre made and I just fry them up) without even knowing that we were having a movie night- I did it because that's what my "helpers" like to eat for breakfast anyway. Well I figured it's a good time to theme the movie and my father in law and I were cooking and prepping while running around os the photos are not the best and I never took a photo of the chicken tika! So this is the prathas (some more I made for everyone after figuring I'll do the movie night) we have no pictures of the chai tea but everything I am showing is Indian style stuff!
movienights037.jpg

After this Damien watched the movie and I had him draw some jungle animals from the youtube clip of the jungle boats at Disney. He drew them funny and was trying to think of jokes to say about them I don't have a picture of this because I was inside listening/looking when the first cop arrived:headache: so when the cop left I was a little upset and just left the room- I'm a little sorry I was so upset about this now!
So on to the food and that's really all this post is because while we were eating the 2nd cop came and that's when they packed up food to take home and left.
This is just spiced basmati rice
movienights041.jpg

Maharaja Curry (chicken and tomatoes)
movienights042.jpg

Bhurtha (eggplant, peas and tomatoes)
movienights038.jpg

Naan
movienights040.jpg

We ate all of the food with this stuff on the side- it's very good and sour and spicy at the same time, I love that!
movienights039.jpg

Then I don't have a picture of other stuff I think that it was gone or only my share was left by the time I got around to pictures. But we ate with a Lassi drink (yogurt drink similar to the Turkish one, but sweeter than it), we were supposed to eat milk cake for dessert but they took it with them and the falooda mix they took too (it's a drink with jelly, almonds and Indian ice cream in it). It's good that I had all of that stuff on hand because other than the 2 incidents when we started saying movie day he felt better and it kinda took his mind off of it all. So sad that to feel better we think of Disney today! The last time when I was 10 we went through a hurricane a few months before we left for Disney too! I love this movie though- I am sad that I didn't get to watch it all with him, but I did get to see some of my favorite parts- like the elephants and the King Louie parts! I don't really like the ending so I was okay to miss it! I secretly always wanted him to stay in the jungle!

Yum that food looks good!!! And you managed all that while preparing for Irene!?! :worship::worship:

Hope you are all doing well....:goodvibes

I second that. I am amazed...I had planned Jungle Book for this weekend too, sadly the rental place does not have it and the one at the library is on loan, netflix does not have it as a download...UGH! Why on earth did I give all those Disney tapes away last year...:confused3

Been thinking of you since I got up, knowing that the storm is probably right on top of you. Praying that all is well.

Yes, with the help of my FIL coming in and chopping and stirring with me!

We are good! Thank you all for all of your prayers and thoughts and :goodvibes! We did a lot better than even people a few blocks away! I took lots of pictures and am going to post a few.... I hope that no one minds!

After walking around that tree I had one more to get around-notice all of them that can't read? There were live wires blowing in the wind!

This is looking south while standing at the stop sign down my road (also this is what I had to wade through to take the next pictures!

The boats that were left came right up on the dock ramp!

There is a bench and picnic table here somewhere that Damien and I walk to for lunch sometimes!
digital223.jpg

There used to be more dock here that juts further into the bay...
digital222.jpg

Oh well here's a piece of it I found!
digital226.jpg

This is another road on my way back to my house.
digital227.jpg

Sadly this is one of the lucker parts of the neighborhood and Island, most of the Island is still out of power right now because branches and trees were coming down and taking down the wires that were in the way!
digital213.jpg

As of right now I think that they said there is still a little over 300,000 people without power throughout the island, my grandfather being one of them. We were really lucky we only lost power for about an hour in the very early morning and we never lost internet or the land phone- most cellphone calls were in and out! I didn't get hit as hard as people kept saying and where Damien was staying (Centereach) they got hit a little harder than we did! But now he's home and all of my family members are safe! We are part of the village cleanup team tomorrow since DH's boss says that the east end of the island (hamptons) where they work is under water! Thank you all SO MUCH for the prayers and thoughts! We still have a little wind (about 30-35 MPH gusts) but it's much better than last night and earlier today! I am praying that Shocky5 (Amy) and her family are okay, I don't seem to see that she has been on today! If you could please pray for her I'd appreciate it! Thank you! Sorry I know I went a little picture heavy!

Thanks for all the pictures...and you could not be too picture heavy. I sure wish you could send some of that water our direction. We so NEED IT.

I am so glad you are all safe and sound!!! :yay::yay::yay:

Should I feel sorry for the people out in the Hamptons? (I know there are regular folk out there too...)

I think Shocky5 should be okay...she lives in Oklahoma :rotfl: but we can always worry about her, I am sure she could use prayers too...I think it is Lisa that you are worrying about Becc1 in Maryland.

I messed up, yes I meant and thought about Lisa, but I made a mistake! I am sorry but yes I am sure she could use good thoughts and prayers!

I wonder how that would work..... maybe we should call Phineas and Ferb to build a big vacuum and have the dump site there? hmmmm....... Ferb I know what we are going to do today!

I knew who you meant...that is what counts. I have such a hard time keeping tack of everyone...made me a cheat sheet and have it posted next to my computer!

Thanks for the laugh before bed...."MOM, the boys are..." I am actually compiling ideas for a Phineas & ferb night...actually I think we will have a lunch movie soon...cause I found some fun ideas!

I'm so thankful you and your family cam through the storm safe. As many line are down around you, I'm surprised your power is up and running! We were out for over a week with Katrina and Rita and then Gustav yuck! Glad everyone is safe though!

I am glad that you are safe. The damage and flooding is quite shocking. At least your power was not out for long.:goodvibes

:lmao:Yeah my son is always watching that show! He loves it! Let me know if you need help with the stuff or what your trying to do... I can try and worst comes to worse you don't like it!

Yes we were shocked too! Especially because towns that weren't even near the water(like where my grandfather and son were) lost power and stuff! We were all really lucky and it's really nice out today, not too chilly and not too hot with a cook breeze so we are all cutting and raking and such- I got a cut, it's great I feel like we are coming together which is what they wanted to happen when we voted yes to becoming a separate village!

I am glad that you are safe. The damage and flooding is quite shocking. At least your power was not out for long.:goodvibes

Yes it is, the picture doesn't even do it justice! Thank you! How are you feeling? How's your arm?

Wow on the pics! Thank you for worrying about me but I'm definitely dry in Oklahoma. :goodvibes I hope that the clean-up process for everyone will go smoothly and quickly. I happened to be in Florida several years ago when Hurricane Charley hit - quite a process they go through to prepare for that.

I will post a full update on my post rather than take up the space in yours with the 'jibber jabber' I tend to post! :rotfl: But all is well - just in a horribly busy time of year for my family - Disney is soooo appealing to me right now!! I'm back in the "I can't hardly wait for it to get here" mode. :yay:

How is clean up going? I sure wish plane tickets were free and I would be there helping you!

I am in that mode! I want to scream it from the rooftops but I want to make sure that no one can hear! I am always scared about people knowing when we are leaving! I mean my sister in law is going to stay here for the week and my neighbors are really good! But I don't want to come home from a great vacation to have trouble and drama!
How is clean up going? I sure wish plane tickets were free and I would be there helping you!

The clean up is happening nice, some people are a little gungho about getting it all done NOW, but I'm taking it easy. It was a big thing and it didn't happen in a day it happened over 2! The village board has been great! they had some trucks to help pump some of the water out of the road and into a truck-- I'm not sure where they are dumping it-- maybe I can get them over to you guys! They had men chopping down trees and such. We all ended around 6pm and I cleaned up some of my yard then took a shower and we ordered pizza:rotfl2:DH doesn't like Italian food and it was good because he's at the airport picking up his mom right now! I wish that plane tickets were free too, but I am meeting people I didn't really meet before and Damien is seeing a lot of kids from his bus and they are all playing--- on child asked his mom if he could swim in the ocean (remember that picture you couldn't tell the ocean from the road? Well they let their kids do it! I was a little worried though because as soon as you cross that divider (that you couldn't see) it's about an 8 ft drop! But no horror stories and they had fun!

Damien starts school on the 6th and I want to start printing things out then for a trip journal and making up state gifts and such for him! I am sad he will be in school all day and then activities at night, but happy that it's getting that much closer!

:scared1:Please tell me Damien was not swimming in the ocean!

No no no I was too scared- I did let him play in the puddles and such, but you can't tell where the water from the road and ocean end and it's too deep without me!

On a happy note my MIL is finally home! AND ..... drum roll please....

Or the whole band....

:rockband:

WE GET THE CAR BACK!!!! Oh finally! Just in time to take a quick trip upstate or something! I am so happy I just hope that everything is running really well! I have been with my MIL and SIL all week and hope to get away this weekend so I have been behind on PTR's and am leaving now. I will catch up next week while Damien is in school:banana:YAY for school:banana:
