We always rent a car when we go to WDW. How crazy busy will the roads around WDW and in WDW be during the holdiays?:santa:

Maybe it's me, but I never found traffic on any of the WDW roads to be that bad, even at Christmas time. What I do find to be bad are some of the stupid things tourists do. WDW roads are real, they're not cartoon roads. Here are just a few of the don'ts.

1. Don't stop in the bus lane at the toll booths to look at a map.
2. Don't make a U turn when there is sign indicating not to.
3. Don't try to beat out a bus unless you're willing to pay the consequences.
4. Don't do something assuming buses can stop on a dime, they can't.
5, Don't stop just anywhere if you think you're lost, keep going until it's safe to pull over. WDW is big, but not that big. Even if you're lost, you're only 15 to 20 minutes away, at the very most, from your destination.
6. Don't speed. There can be a number of speed traps. Fifty is the max speed on World Drive and Epcot Center Drive, fortyfive on Osceola Parkway. Getting a ticket is not a good way to start your vacation.

I agree - never noticed anything when we were there at Christmas. Keep in mind though that if parks close to capacity, the first thing to close will be the parking lots. For a busy Christmas time trip, I would try to stick to Disney transportation as much as possible.

We plan to be there well before rope drop, so the am parking should be OK. It's if we take a break in the pm that worries me. On Xmas Eve, we're planning to go to MK. I worry about being able to get back in around 3pm.

So we thought we would drive and park in the am. Take a bus back to the resort at noon to 3pm for our break. Bus back in and the drive home at the end of the day!

If you're doing that because you're worried that the park will close because it's reached capacity, or because taking the bus is the the way to go as far as MK is concerned, that's one thing, but if you're doing it because you're concerned about heavy traffic, I don't think it's necessary. Traffic will be heavier than normal but not something to worry about.

I realized when I wrote that last post that I was addressing a point made by a PP.

My parking/bus issue had to do with a possible park closure.

From the sounds of it, driving around the world will be OK for us even at Xmas!
THX:santa:

The only time I have ever seen their roads very busy was on Christmas Day, because the lineup of cars attempting to park at the TTC to visit the Magic Kingdom was all the way out by the Swan & Dolphin.

I assume if I do that, I have to pay you. :lmao:

We'll be at FW nest Saturday to visit Debbie. Maybe we can hook up then. We'll be at Bonnet Creek for a couple of weeks........ So we won't be riding your bus, but maybe we can still play bumper cars!
