Driving Around Disney Backstage?

Just got back from a week at Disney. After missing a turn back to the resort I passed what looked like tons of distribution buildings that I figured must be central areas to distribute through Disney. It got me thinking whether there were other little know areas that you could drive around to see other things at Disney. When driving to the Contemporary for dinner the road that looked like it might have gone around the perimeter of MK was closed off but that would have been interesting.

Anyone ever just drive around and see anything else interesting?

The two areas that are distribution buildings or backstage areas that I know of are Buena Vista drive north of Saratoga Springs which looks more like distribution buildings and World Drive after you pass the Contemporary and the Magic Kingdom where they have storage warehouses, the monorail storage building and what I assume is MK employee parking.This area also connects to Reams Rd where you can find apartments and houses a little further away,it's gotta be cool to have daily fireworks visible from your house.

. I have driven off the beaten path before in Disney and went north of the MK and CR. I found a huge employee parking lot, CM buildings, Monorail Buildings. I thought it was real neat seeing the back stage portion of WDW, I also ran into the distribution buildings by SS and actually a water treatment plant by AK.

When I drove down in '08 I went in the backway to get to FortWilderness. Drove on Vista Dr. thru some of the Disney staffing area, saw a lot of Disney signage. I think I even saw a daycare center?!

This year drove down again and went in the Western Way Enterance off HWY 429. Even though this is a major enterance I only saw a couple of cars untill I got right near the Coronado Resort. I could have easily have stopped and gotten a really good picture of the Entry gateway and no one would have known!

I did College Program in Fall of 1996 and my apartments were across I-4 from Pleasure Island. I STILL hate "Macarena" because I heard it EVERY NIGHT (and saw the fireworks too) LOL! It was fun for about two weeks, then super annoying!

I drive the back routes all the time. I live about a five minute drive north of the MK. If I'm going to GF, Poly, or Shades of Green, I always take the route of Reams Road. It takes you past Disney University, the train/monorail shop, Cast Connection, etc. Basically, you're behind Toontown.

If I'm going to DTD or any of the other areas, I normally take the road of CR535 that takes me past the distribution warehouses.

It took me a few months, after moving to the area, to learn all of the back roads in and around WDW, but I know most of them now. Really, there isn't that much on the exciting side to see by taking these routes.

I was on the fall 96 program too and our apt at vista way almost faced I-4 but we didn't hear much other than late night volleyball games, lol!

Don't count on it. There are tons of cameras monitoring the roads and intersections, not all of them obvious.

And that's why they have the lighted "Emergency Stopping Only" signs along the entranceways...to keep people from stopping to take pictures of the signs.
