I committed the cardinal sin last week - ended up in the Transportation & Ticket parking lot at 11am in the middle of March. What a disaster!!

In my defense, I was TRYING to park elsewhere - but DH and I got twisted around (we get lost easily LOL) and found ourselves in the MK parking lot. It took a solid hour and a half to get inside MK.

The tram to the Ticket & Transportation centre was relatively quick - waited about 10 mins and were there by 11:15am. Then spent a solid half an hour at the Will Call window picking up our tickets. (Note to others: the Will Call lines at MK itself looked a bit shorter). From there, it took FORTY FIVE minutes to get on the ferry and across. The monorail lines looked a million times more insane (don't know if it was faster in actual practice?)

It was our fault entirely getting to MK so late. We had planned to get there for RD (our usual modus operandi) and we slept in etc etc. So the masses were out in full force.

When we left, we again had bad timing. I was trying to get out before the end of 2nd MSEP at 11:20pm, and naturally, we walked out just 2 minutes after that...along with thousands of our new best friends. Thankfully we followed a CM's advice and used the resort monorail (took 5-10 mins) vs the regular monorail (the lines extended on and on and on) and got to the Transportation and Ticket Centre pretty quick. But it was another 45 mins in line to get on the tram. All in all, it was an hour to our car.

Miss my onsite magical buses!!!! and yes, there can sometimes be a long wait for those as well - but this was really excruciating. Now I totally understand why DISers recommend using the buses to get to MK. I always thought...."how bad can it really be?"

Now I know!!

You drove to the correct place.
If you are staying off site there is no better place to park than the "MK parking lot" (Ticket & Transportation Center) when going to MK.

Probably would have been quicker to walk to the Polynesian and hop the monorail or resort launch from there.

That's an awesome idea - would never even have thought of that possibility.

That would have made the peak travel times much more manageable. The lines felt neverending, especially since we were so excited to get into MK! I kept thinking of all those posters who said it wasn't that bad....well, it is during peak hours! I sure missed my RD when I was waiting in all those crazy lines.
