Driven crazy - and not the usual stuff

Seems people keep talking about backpacks. Not trying to pick a fight, but I just don't understand why people care what others bring in? We don't bring anything in other than cell phone and magic band, but I could care less if others want to pack like a Sherpa.

It's not what they bring in the backpack that really bothers people. It's being hit with it when someone wearing one loses track of where it is and how much space it needs when they turn. If people with backpacks were more careful there would be far fewer complaints.

Well, you say that but that's not what many posters have said. They are questioning why you need to bring x or y into the parks.

And I guess I don't see this as a crisis. In all the times I've been to WDW I don't remember being subject to this wave of backpack attacks. Strollers and scooters, sure. But it's a busy, confined space so "it is what it is."

In addition, if people were not so close as to almost be on top of the other person they wouldn't get swatted with the backpack when the one wearing it moved. As with all things, scooters, strollers, wheelchairs, both parties are responsible.

Good point. We all have to be aware of our surroundings. That can sometimes be a challenge with all there is to take in.

I don't agree. All that would do is draw even more people to WDW, and MK would stay just as crowded. No matter what they build, MK will always be "Disney World" to most people.

Ughh, this is so true. MY DIL who recently invited her family on our trip and then wound up spending only 2 hours with us because she insisted that there was nothing for her kids to do at the other 3 parks. Funny how the other 12 people (including 3 children) who traveled with us found plenty to do at the other parks. It blows my mind that someone would spend a week in WDW and not go to any park other than the Magic Kingdom. :sad2:

Put my family in the minimalist crowd. Even when we have small kids in our group, we've found ways to minimize what we carry, and for us, we found that very helpful over carrying a large pack. Ther are alternatives.

We do minimize what we carry :) having a backpack doesn't mean it's twice my size or something.

For example, we never found it necessary to carry a full package of wipes. A ziplock bag full was plenty.
We don't carry a full package of wipes either. TBH, thought never crossed our minds.

Though we did sometimes carry extra clothes, I can only recall one time - over many trips with extended family and many small kids- that we actually needed to use them. We also quickly learned that the extra outfit need not be bulky. It was especially helpful to use a ziplock bag like one of the compression bags. We could easily fit an outfit of a toddler in a sandwich bag (freezer style, if possible) and compress out all the air.
We also do not pack bulky clothes as extras, and we also pack them in ziplocs as you describe. That's how her clothes are packed into the suitcase for travel in the first place.

I've ever really saw the benefit of carrying many snacks. Once in while, if we are in a rush- we will grab a banana or an orange, but the deal we make is that we aren't going to carry it for very long. WE eat all snack within an hour of arriving in the park.

As fr this, we carry soy milk and just a few small snacks. The snacks aren't the issue. DD is transitioning slowly to milk, so soy milk is still necessary, and it isn't always on hand wherever we are in a park, so we bring shelf stable singles with us. Do we look forward to when we don't have to do tgat? Yes. But for now we prepare for her current needs.

Yup, have 3 kids myself and have been there every year, and never needed a bag that big. EVER. I guess we all are different because I'd rather take a chance and go back to the resort if needed than carry all that extra clothing all 10 days and not need it.

Yeah, I'm with you. Been to WDW multiple times with littles and have just never needed all of that stuff.

I'll never offer my bus seat to anyone. As someone previously mentioned, if you're standing on the bus it's because you chose to stand. No one forced you to get on a packed bus with your infant. I'll sometimes wait for 2 buses to come and go so I can sit on my 15 minute ride back to the resort. The way I see it is I paid for a seat on the bus. Sorry but I have no pity for those who choose to stand.

Wow. Just wow.

Hakuna matata, man, hakuna matata. I look forward to my WDW trips too much to let any of this stuff bother me. I can get frustrated by other people at work and on my commute. I'm not allowing someone else to negatively control my emotions at Disney World.

And I'd rather carry extra clothing than to have to take 30 mins+ to exit the park, get back to the hotel and change her all while DD is still in soiled clothing b/c I didn't have extras for her. Yeah, no..not trying to keep a squirmy toddler in soiled clothing, and wouldn't have her walk around w/o clothing either.

(yeah, I know buying clothes is always an option...and I do, as souvenirs. Would rather carry clothes than have to buy extra that I wasn't planning on).
We carry extra clothes, too, and always suntan lotion for my husband's head, lol! (He learned that the hard way). Now, with 2 little DGDs we have to carry the extras as well. (But I have a normal sized backpack). Lesson also learned on last trip: I will always send my purchases to the room.

Lose at least 3 seats for every scooter on the busses. Plus they get to bypass the lines.

As the buses only hold 2 or 3 scooters it isn't that big of an issue. And Disney is changing the way scooters wait in line and load. More and more they are making the queues large enough that scooters can maneuver thru them, and only pull out to be loaded near the end.

Did you read my karma story? We stayed two Decembers ago at POR and it was so busy sometimes at park closing time we would have to wait through 3 buses before there was enough room on one to squeeze on. I was complaining about the scooters (not so much the scooters getting preference but their often very large entourages). Finally, after waiting through sometimes 2 buses loading for other resorts, a POR bus came and we were close to the front where I stated that we would finally get a seat as no scooters or wheelchairs were waiting, and here came not one, not two, but THREE scooters and their large crowd. LOL, karma got me; I never complained again. (Nor will I ever again stay at POR)

I'm 1,000% for accommodating those with disabilities. But if someone has no desire to walk, why would they want to come to parks as large as Disney?

I saw a person in a wheelchair wait her turn in the bus line like everyone else for this mornings bus while a scooter rider pulled up last minute and got loaded.

How about they desire to walk, but can't? Should people who are not able to walk just sit home?

The fact that Disney is so accommodating is why so many people who can't walk go to WDW.

Ew boy. Troll alert!!! I think saying your are "1000% for accommodating those with disabilities" while at the same time wondering why someone who has difficulty walking would want to come to Disney World shows more about you than just that you don't understand how percentages work.

What are the reasonable expectations of those on scooters of those that aren't on them?

This is why I'm glad that they are changing the way scooters are made to wait just like everyone else.
