Driven crazy - and not the usual stuff

What are the reasonable expectations of those on scooters of those that aren't on them?

I don't use a scooter, but I have had to push a wheelchair around the park. The expectations we had were for people to pay attention to where they are going, and not try to cut across where we were walking. We also expected to not hear complaints about the supposed bonuses of using wheels to get around the parks. Trust me, people using a scooter or wheelchair do not get around the parks as easily as those who can walk.

This is why I'm glad that they are changing the way scooters are made to wait just like everyone else.
Off topic alert!
Love your avatar! Is it from Flower and Garden? We're going next year.
Now, back to the regularly scheduled topic.

I must be so lucky so far I feel terrible for any of you who have to deal with rudeness

I'm adding a new one...

SHUT OFF YOUR LIGHT UP EARS/NECKLACES ETC DURING RIDES! Holy mackerel those things are obnoxious to your fellow guests. It's bad enough outdoors during parades and fireworks (had at least one person right in my face at each show with the big Christmas light necklaces), but during Pirates? Haunted Mansion?? ToT??? So obnoxious.

People who witch about scooters have never had to deal with them. We've waited for 4 busses to come and go at akv because of broken ramps or the two scooter areas are filled. We've dealt with crappy people who give the evil eye as we had waited for the bus and were loaded on apparently just because it takes a few minutes of their time. We've never seen more because of a scooter and have always seen and experienced less.

Lol the true question for those calling for fair boarding. Line everyone up and don't load anyone out of order. If the two wc places are taken and the next person is in a chair don't load anyone else. Because it isn't fair if your family can load if my mom was there first. Not logical. But fair.

People only want fair when it benefits them.

I love your HM statement. That happened to me this week. Our room let out and CM said to fill in dead space, so the 2 of us did. A very large man yells saying we are cutting in front. I politely told him I wasn't but listening to directions. Told him to look behind him at the mass crowd that needed to enter. He proceeded to state he was there first. I said fine, then you move onto the dead space and I will remain behind you, but someone had to go there. That really got him mad, but he did move. Some think everywhere is a single line, and it isn't. It's as many as Disney can legally fit in. Get to know and smell your neighbors unfortunately when you go at peak times

Yup - also just back from a trip last week.

What is it with all the folks who seem to have NO clue that they are standing in the way??? Bathrooms - yup - really? When there are people waiting to use the sink - why must you stand in front of it to dry your hands and play with your hair where there is no mirror anyway? Especially because the trash can and mirror are several feet away! And yep - why is your whole family waiting inside the restroom for everyone to finish (speaking about teenagers, friends, older extended family - not younger kids which I understand). And when there is a line for a stall - please pay attention when you are up next so you can move to the next available stall - and not be so engrossed in a conversation or pecking on your phone that someone behind you in line has to prompt you that a stall is available.

Or - how about stopping as a group of 10 in the middle of a narrow walkway - blocking the entire path??? Didn't someone teach you to move to the side so others can still pass?

And yes - at the park entrance - really - please move more than one foot away from the entrance gate to have a conversation with your party so that other folks can enter the park and not back up the line. While I understand a newbie might have trouble lining up their magicband and realizing they need to use the fingerprint reader - everyone should know to have tickets out and not buried in a bag!

And while I understand what might be in those gigantic backpacks of families with infants and toddlers - I can't imagine what is in some of the gigantic bags some folks carry all day. I'd be exhausted just schlepping a bag that heavy around all day.

And really? If I am waiting for a parade in a parade watching viewing area (not a pathway the CM wants to stay open) - I am NOT obligated to move to let you in with your gigantic stroller (especially when you have already rammed into us without even asking us to move). And don't say we are causing a fire hazard because we won't let you by. We were the ones in the marked waiting area.... That's why CMs keep pathways open - so you still have place to move and not invade those of us waiting for the parade inside the taped areas.

And gosh - when the CM is yelling at the crowd to fill in all available space (like the HM queue outside the main doors) - I am NOT cutting in line if I chose to fill in the available space such that it seems like I am in front of you now and I wasn't before. YOU didn't chose to move as told. I was one following directions - so don't give me dirty looks.

Sigh. I'm sure I did something someone else thought was rude this past week, too.

Just this past Tuesday I was the first waiting for the bus to leave EPCOT mid day. I know there were no scooters waiting. I waited a good 15 minutes before line got long and scooter came. That scooter had a family of 6. They got on before us. The woman was so determined to enter first that she drove up ramp and nearly tipped. Driver was on back of bus getting area ready for her. He didn't motion for them to enter yet. He ran out to help when he saw what she was doing. To make matters worse, Her family caused others to not fit on the bus. Was that fair? No, should based on arrival. Don't be Johnny come lately and get on first. Some (not all) are in scooters because they are just heavy and cannot walk too far while many who walk have unseen disabilities which may prevent them from standing and holding on straps in bus. Sorry for the rant but real life issues exist outside of a scooter too

Well, what's frustrating is that sometimes it still IS that. My dear friend went to WDW with her child and parents, and her mom is disabled and in a wheelchair, and they went straight to the front on every line. That's what the family thinks it is like now!

Ooh, good catch. I hadn't thought about that being the reason.
DAS doesn't get you front of the line. It gets you a retun time just as a fast pass does, then you go in fast pass line upon return

To years ago we were at HS with 2 wheelchairs and stayed to see Osborne lights after Fantasmic. Well, you know how crowded it can get. We were staying at BC. There we 3 other scooters besides us and the buses were full. Whoever was coordinating the buses saw us, came over to talk and ordered a bus just for the scooters/wheelchairs. Luckily when we get on the bus my sons can transfer, so everybody that needed to get on the bus was able to as well as the next bus which accommodated all the non-disabled. Wish this happened all the time.

Scooters have to load first, though, and the scooter was already there when the bus arrived. I would assume that if the scooter arrived while the bus was loading that the bus driver wouldn't have made people get off in order to allow the scooter on.

Also, DAS isn't for people in wheelchairs (as was the case with the person you quoted) - it's for people with hidden disabilities like autism.

Couldn't you have just walked back to BC?

Even with wheel chair you don't get front of the line. I do believe you get a return time just as DAS. a disability is a disability a chair doesn't make it any different. In fact, some of the newer lines are wheelchair accessible. The point I was trying to make is that a wheelchair doesn't get you FOTL as the original poster was leading others to state. As far as the bus issue, if the wheelchair family came last, they should have been first to board next bus, not bump others there first causing them to wait for next bus. I guess you really didn't read enitre thread :( i understand they need to load first, but not when they get there after and would not have made it on had they been standing in the regular line????? That was the point.

I'm 1,000% for accommodating those with disabilities. But if someone has no desire to walk, why would they want to come to parks as large as Disney?

I saw a person in a wheelchair wait her turn in the bus line like everyone else for this mornings bus while a scooter rider pulled up last minute and got loaded.
Yes,I witnessed that at Pop Century this past week. Person with cast on leg in chsir went thru regular line with family and then they folded up chair. Scooter came around and loaded first...???
Also witnessed a family trying to get on bus without taking child out of a regular stroller because he was sleeping lol bus driver had mom remove child & dad fold up stroller

My third trip to Disney. First 2 times were the second week of June and were every bit as crowded as it is right now.

This is our first time staying on property and probably will be our last. I'm extremely disappointed in this bus system. When driving, I was usually able to leave the park gate and off Disney property in 20 minutes. It's been over 30 minutes just getting from Disney Springs to Typhoon Lagoon. Trying to get to the Swan.

Was it due to bus wait alone or added traffic? I know traffic increases this time of year and any holiday. Last July 4th week it took 45 minutes to drive from the corner where Hotel Plaza Blvd & Buena Vista Dr is (beginning of DS) to the Boardwalk!!! Traffic was horrible

Waited about 30 minutes for the bus to show up. We watched 3-4 buses for other places show up while waiting on this one. Why are people paying premium resort prices when the bus service is worse than Pop Century?

Here's the sequence of events.

Left MK to go to HS because we had several hours to kill. Daughter found a shirt in a shop but didn't have their size. Was told it was at world of Disney in DS. Get there, they don't have it, it's at the Swan. Standing at the bus stop at 1:20. Finally get to Swan at 2:10. Ran in to get the shirt and back in the shuttle by 2:25. I have a 3:15 parade fast pass at MK that I might miss.

I'll never waste my money on park hopper again. The bus system is perfect if you have the patience to watch paint dry.

I'm confused, the wait was due to Disney Springs, not park hoping? Either way, 30 minutes is a long wait. I want to say the Park buses run more often than the DS buses during the day reguardless of resort. Most of the demand during the day is for Parks not DS so they run less buses

I did read the entire thread, thanks. And how is the bus driver supposed to know whether or not they got there first? And are you saying that people who arrived after the scooter should also have had to wait for the next bus even if there was room for them on the first bus?
