Drive vrs flying

Cost difference.

  • Saving of under 400$ total, I would drive

  • It would take more than 400$$ but breaking point under 800 to drive

  • at least 800$ - 1200 in min savings.. driving I go.

  • it would take over 1200

  • doesn't matter I am driving, or flying costs not important

I prefer flying. Actually I'd rather stick my eye with a sharp pin then drive from Pittsburgh.

We are about 16 hours away. Sometimes we drive, sometimes we fly. It depends on flight costs and how much time we have to get away.

We live in the Dallas area and we have done both. I would rent a car either here or there so that expense is a given. If we have enough time then we would likely drive.

I live about 30 miles east of Dallas, so fly out of DFW too. If the savings were around $1000.00, I might consider driving.:rotfl: I always think drive 22 hours or fly 2 hours and 22 minutes. Flying wins every time.:rotfl: I don't want to spend my valuable vacation time on the road.

After 12 years of only flying to WDW we are doing something I swore we would never do......driving! 20 plus hours from upstate NY! Airfare on SW out of our airport has gotten rediculous and would cost us almost $1800 R/T. Add to that the hassle of the airport with a 4 year old and a 10 month old. We are planning to stop for the night on the way down and are trying the autotrain on the return trip.

If you have a 10 month old, get a cabin on the auto train. It will be worth it.

We booked a family bedroom, there was no way we would be doing coach seats with either of our boys. I would never subject the other passengers to that!

I fall into the 'other' category. Cost, time, and vehicle all factor into the decision. Yes, you save money by driving, but lose time. ...

pretty much this- for us the time is usually the limiting factor. Obviously money is part of the equation as it is for everyone. We're about 16hrs away driving. It's nice to save money but to be honest we prefer driving - less hassle in our heads (had to chuckle when someone said that the possibility of troubles popping up - MADE THEM FLY- I guess they've never had their flight out of MCO cancelled and got sent to ATL instead since it has more flights, and then the connecting flight had mechanical troubles so you had to wait 10 hours at the gate for a flight the rest of the way home with a 2 and 4 year old- LOL) . But it takes time- so if we don't have the time then we fly. And when we have the time we drive.

as someone posted above- there's potentially a cost to taking the extra vacation day(s) you might need to drive.

For us on this trip, vacation time isn't a big deal so rather than fly we decided to stay a second week. I'll waste a couple days driving but i have the time available.

We live 32 hours away and we mostly drive. The airfares are beyond ridiculous here. The only time we don't drive is when we're forced by time, like during spring break where my wife only has a week off. Driving down last christmas break was fun, watching the snow disappear and the temperatures go up!
