I just love 'em!!! We found a drive-in about an hour from our house and while I wish it was closer, it's still worth it to go. We saw Scoobie-Doo 2 and Starsky & Hutch at tonight's double feature. Kids in their jammies, home-made popcorn, and a thermos full of lemonade...that just spells summer to me.

I'm finding myself holding out on seeing Raising Helen until it double feature's in July with Home on the Range.

Anybody else out there a drive-in junkie?

Unfortunately, I've never been to a Drive-In, though I'd love to go someday.

Just got back about 45 min. ago from seeing Harry Potter 3 and Scooby Doo 2. Like you, we have almost an hour drive to get there but it is so much fun. I worked at a drive-in way back when, it has long since been torn down, too bad, it was about 5 min. from here. I would be in bed now but had a coughing fit and couldn't sleep. Thank goodness for the DIS boards.
Smiles...and coughs,

I grew up when drive ins were big. In fact my DH and I remember taking my DD to her first move at the Drive In. We took her to see Snow White when she was about 3 or 4. Fun night, she was in her jammies, we brought an ice chest with pop, fresh popped pocorn, along with some other snacks. We also brought her pillow and her sleeping bag, we had a station wagon. Walked her up to the playground right under the screen. She is 22 now and she still remembers it, it fact she says the evil queen still scares the willies out of her. :scared1:

I almost forgot about that memory. Leave it to the DIS to stir up old memories. :p

We have a double-screen drive-in right in our own town! :) It is VERY popular and tough to get in. We went years ago when DS was a baby and it was great.

We're in Richmond, too. I heard about one out in Goochland. Is this the same one, and do you have directions?

DW Lauri and I were talking about drive-ins a few days ago and would love to find one around here.

We have a drive-in theater in our city. We never go though. I would miss the air conditioning:o

I grew up going to the drive-in movies too, ah the memories...they even had a playground up by the screen and had a carousel, free for the kids to ride. After DH and I got married, we took our DS sometimes when he was little. Had a van with lots of space in the middle for his playpen. So he would fall asleep about as soon as it got dark and the movie started. I don't recall ever taking DD though, it may have been torn down by then.

Then a few years ago in the upper peninsula we found one again, and DD and her fiance went with us and thought it was really neat. Sadly, that one has been torn down too. :(

It's nice to hear they are so popular still in some places, wish there was one closer to us as I'd love to go again.

There's one close by me still open too. :)

Thanks for the link, SplshMtn99! Looks like the one in Fork Union, VA is the one swea_pea1 went to.

Crap!! I did a google and found a couple more sites with additional information. Lauri wanted to do a drive-in because we could bring a couple of the dogs along, but this site says no pets allowed. (which doesn't make sense to me, as long as the pet is confined to the car)

We have one about 30 minutes away still open w/ 3 screens. We also have a 6 screen one about 55 minutes away. We usually go 1-2 times per month. Were just there last week to see Shrek2 and Mean Girls.

Thanks for the link SplshMtn99!!! :hyper: They have one listed within an hour from me. I love going to the drive-in.

We have 3 drive ins within 20 mi of our house. There is a new drive in planned to be built about 1.5 mi from us. I can't wait. There will also be a playground and a mini golf.

There is a drive-in movie theater right down the street from my house. It's been closed for years, but I remember going as a kid. I just found out they'll be tearing it down to build condos.

Stupid suburban development! :sad2:

Since some new drive-ins are being built it would be wonderful to see them become popular again. ::yes::

I used to love the drive-in when I was a child! I saw Mary Poppins at the drive-in when I was 5 years old! :p It was a great family time! I wonder if I would like it now? We used to have the old bench style seats in the car that you could push back and stretch out on, now we have bucket seats. Hmmmm.

Thank you for the link SplshMtn99! :) There is one listed that *might* be near us. All three that were in this area closed, I guess the last one about 7 - 10 years ago. Hmm. That might make a different "date night". Thank you again!

Last movie I saw at the drive in was a double feature - No Nukes Concert/Rolling Stones documentary, with a group of us piled in three cars and a sneeked in 1/4 keg. :p

who loves going to the drive-in!

we live about 15 minutes from 'the oldest drive-in in the state of ohio' and we go often (dh works afternoons so i take the kids on friday nights). it's usually packed, with cars lined up down the main road through town, and they often sell out. but, even when they do sell out, they will let you park across the road and walk in-we've done it once and taken our cooler, blankets and pillows and watched the movie from front-row!

it's $5 per person, for 2 movies and a lot of nostalgia (i always remember my first trip to the drive-in as a kid, to see 'dirty mary and crazy larry'!). my kids are lovin' it and it's good family fun!

glad to hear that others are enjoying the drive-in too!

we've been twice this year already
HP3 & Shrek 2
gotta love it
funnel cake, playground, and pony rides
