Do any of you still have drive in movie theaters around you? We are very lucky to have a fantastic one.

America's Oldest Drive-In

And can I just say that it is my very favorite way to see a movie. Since we moved, it's about 40 minutes away, but we still go several times each summer. They play double features of the newest movies (am counting the days til 7/7...POC2!) Admission is $6.50 for adults, but remember...2 movies.

And yessireeBob, you can bring your own snacks - like a whole cooler with takeout pizza and a big old bag of gourmet popcorn :Pinkbounc .

The soundsystem is as good as your car stereo, boom box, or MP3 Player. Probably the only downside, possibly, are the very extremely late nights. With long summer days, the first show doesn't start til 9, second show at 11 or so. That ends the evening at 1am  .

I love this place and I wonder...how many are still around?

There is one in AZ by me that we go to often. I love it and it's so much cheaper then the regular movie theatre as well. And you don't have to worry about babies crying, cell phones ringing and people talking during the movie!

There are a couple out my way.

The Mendon Drive-In which used to be the Milford Drive-In, but since it's really located in Mendon, they re-named it. We used to go there all the time as kids. Haven't been in ages though. It now has 2 screens, but I'm not sure of the cost. They charge by that carload though, so it's a great deal.

And then there is another one in Lincoln, RI not too far from us. I can't remember the name of it. I believe they have 3 screens and also charge by the car load.

There are a few others around MA, but not as close to us as these two are.

Maybe hubby and I should think about going to the drive-in this weekend.

Yep. We have in one West Palm. With 2 screens. And another one down in Ft. Lauderdale with multiple screens. When I was younger we used to go all the time.Nothing like getting to wear your pj's at the movies and bring a bunch of junk food from home :cool1: . I don't go as much anymore..maybe once in a blue moon.

We go to one in Warwick, NY, about 45 minutes to an hour from here. It's a long trip, so we only go once or twice a summer, but it's fun!!

When I was little there used to be at least 3 that I know of here. The 303 Drive In in NY(about 20 minutes away), we went to that one all the time, there was another one..I forget where, I do remember there was a train track not too far away and we would count the train cars as it passed before the movie started.
One of them had a playground and all the little kids(us included) would be there in their PJs palying before the movie started, Good times!

Then there was one about 5 minutes away in Paramus NJ, that was closed and is now part of the parking lot of big mall.

We have a wonderfully unique drive-in in Monte Vista, Colorado called the Movie Manor Inn. It's a Best Western hotel, and while they have the traditional car parking, you can also rent a room and lay in bed and watch the drive-in movie.

My husband was down there on business when our kids were small and we went with him on the trip. I can still vividly remember watching "Three Men and a Baby" on the screen, laying in one bed, while our kids were jumping on the bed next to us. :) Great fun!!

We have one here in Western PA that's about 20 miles from our house. We go each year.

The sound also comes through our car stereo. They have 6 screens.

Yup I go to these 3 at least once a year.

There's the Rustic - North Smithfield RI
The Mendon Drive In - Mendon MA
The Wellfleet Drive In - Wellfleet MA

There's also 3 more in MA I've been to - in Lunenburg, Gardner, and Leicester but I'm not sure if they are open anymore.

We have one about 15 miles away from our house. It's called the Parkway - 50s themed. They do 2 shows usually - G/PG early and a PG-13/R later. This weekend they're doing a dusk-til-dawn marathon. They'll show "Curious George", "Superman Returns", "Poseidon" & "V for Vendetta".

Oh that is so cool.

I am happy to hear that they are still around. I've seen a couple close to become FLEA MARKETS! :sad2: This is the only one I know of around here. It's so nice when going to the movies can just be a fun, family affair and you don't have to re-mortgage your house to afford it.

Neat! I know when the kids were smaller the double feature thing got tricky. I'd always expect them to go to sleep for the second movie, but they never do and ended up seeing a couple of flicks that they otherwise would not have (Pearl Harbor when youngest was 4 comes to mind  )

Yes, we have one near us it is the Tri-Town Drive In. It is about 15 min away and $15 per carload.
Just went two weeks ago to see CARS!! :thumbsup2
Going this holiday weekend to see Superman Returns, We love :lovestruc it!!
Bring our own popcorn popcorn:: and drinks :drinking1

We still have in West Palm Beach still. We go every once in awhile. They have 2 screens and typically play 3 different movies a night... one plays twice and the other plays two different ones for a double header. They have a swap shop on weekend mornings.

I only have one nearby - the Weirs Beach Drive In in Laconia NH. When I was a kid, it was awesome!! Now, it's probably the number one place in Laconia to buy drugs, underage drinking, and several other things that probably won't get through the DIS filter. Needless to say, haven't been in years

We have one here in the Seattle area, maybe even two. We go to the big 6 screen one sometimes. popcorn:: :moped:

Would that be the one in Auburn? I work about a mile from that one. Every year they say "its the last year", and every year they come back. I'm going to try to take the kids this summer so they can experience it before it really does close.

We have one in Felton, DE (about 45 minutes from here) that we go to quite often.
They show double features and the cost is $8.00. Still not a bad price to pay considering you are getting two new releases. The regular movie theaters around here are $8.25 for one movie and you have to contend with rude people on cell phones, talking, children. The drive in is the only way to see a movie! :thumbsup2

Mine is right around the corner behind the woods! 15 bucks for a carload and tons of fun. I live in a small town. They're still around! :thumbsup2 OT...the marquee says "See You Spring 2006" and he says "I've never heard of that movie!" :rotfl:

We have a drive-in right here in our town. We love going when there is a suitable movie for DD who is 3.

You can't bring in snacks unless you pay $5, that is new this year. But, I understand. They make their money on the concession stand, not the movie tickets. If you don't buy the food, they won't have enough money to keep the theater open. Besides, I love movie popcorn!
