Drive from NJ to WDW best route?

My DH and I are driving to WDW in 2 weeks . It has been a really long time since we have done this as we usually fly but we will be there for 2 weeks so we are driving. My question is to anybody who has driven from NJ to WDW. We are trying to decide which is the better route. Taking the Delaware Memorial Bridge and the typical I95 route or take the Cape May Ferry and do that alternate route. I'm not even sure what we do once we are off of the ferry but that shouldn't be too hard to figure out. I'm sure our GPS will take us where we need to go. Any suggestions?

If you take the ferry you will head south, stay with US Route 9 south to US 13 south. Take the Chesapeake Bay Bridge Tunnel and stay on US13 south to I264 west to US58 west to I-95 south.

Nice trip, but not the quickest route. Also expensive in tolls between the ferry and the bridge-tunnel.

I'd stick with the Delaware Memorial bridge. It's going to be more traffic but being from NJ nothing you're not used to. Once you get south of the HOV lanes on I-95 the traffic gets much lighter.

Thanks that's what I was thinking about the tolls and the time. MY DH was thinking it might be a nice way to travel but I think it will just take longer and get us into the DC area at a bad time during the morning rush. We are south of you in Ocean County so our traffic isn't quite as bad as by you (I'm familiar with your area)

You wouldn't get to DC at all if you took the ferry and the Eastern shore route, and certainly wouldn't be able to hit any rush hour anyways(unless you are thinking of taking the 2:30 pm ferry?) Being that it is the winter, there are only 4 crossings daily, which make the ferry option not good if you want to go in a straight shot.

If you do ever decide to take the ferry and head over towards the southern part of Virginia near Norfolk and continue across the southern part of VA to Emporia, I prefer to avoid Rt. 13 for as long as possible. We take Rt. 9 to Rt. 1 South (briefly) to Rt. 24 to Rt. 113 S, which hooks into Rt. 13 without having to deal with Georgetown.
