The kids’ bath is right above the kitchen. Yesterday when dd turned on the shower I started to hear a dripping noise. Then I saw a water spot over the kitchen sink that is new but wasn’t wet. She ran the shower again today and the same dripping noise in the ceiling. Wet spot doesn’t seem to be changing. Thirty minutes after the shower ended I still hear a slower drip. No water on the bathroom floor. House is 23 years old. Any ideas??? Should I just call a plumber and then have someone fix the ceiling?

Our master shower was leaking underneath and down into our basement. Some kind of seal in the drain was faulty. Since we aren't in the basement much, it took us a while before we noticed. The wood ceiling beams below the shower were starting to rot from the moisture, but luckily not enough to require repairs. I would call someone right away, since it could get serious.

Yes, this happened to us. In our case, it was the seal on the overflow drain. Our house is 30 years old and he said if the pipe broke during the repair, it would be a more expensive fix. Thankfully it didn't and was a quick fix.

The water spot came from a failed wax seal on a toilet??? Wax seal has been replaced. Now to get my ceiling repaired. It’s always something!!!

Yuck that is was the wax seal but glad it was an easy fix. I hate repairing ceilings, it's the one spot I'd hire someone to do rather than doing it myself. It's just awkward and so it usually gets messy. Pros have it down pat and do it quick. The joys of homeownership :)

Definitely not doing it myself! The good thing was I caught it almost immediately.
