Hi Everyone,

I will be going on my first Disney Cruise next year. I have been on a carnival cruise last year. My question is: Can you buy alcohol on the ship and will they let you keep it for consumption on board? Carnival would keep it until the cruise was over.

Thanks.

If you buy it onboard, they hold it for you until the end of the cruise. If you buy it in port, you can consume it onboard.

SimbaNoodle,

Just to let you know, Disney is the only cruise line that allows you to bring your own alcohol on board for consumption. They also let you bring soda and water if you want. The only request they make it that you bring it in a carry-on and not in your checked luggage.

DH and I went on a 7 day Eastern last summer with several couples. Called ahead to see what the possibilities of brining our own alcohol onboard was. I was SHOCKED when they said yes. Soooooo, we split it between all the couples, and "premixed" our drinks....margaritas(in several varieties), amaretto sours, etc. as well as bringing champagne, wine, and plain old rum. We were glad that we had it, but on the last 2 nights we were hurrying to consume the remains. We did not drink nearly as much of our own as we had intended b/c DCL drinks are actually VERY reasonable priced....less expensive than the margarita I had at On The Border last week for Cinco de Mayo. At $4.75, and sometimes 2 for 1, and $3.50 for the drink of the day, unless you plan to never surface for air, I wouldn't bring that much. Mine and DH bar bill for the week was <$100. We hit the 2 fers and the dailys. The nice thing about those, besides their price, was that they were things we hadn't brought with us. I would say definitely bring your own champagne for sail away. Don't put it in the beverage cooler though, upon arriving in your room ask your stateroom host/ess to fill your bathroom trash can with ice....it's the PERFECT size. Stick it in there as soon as you can, and when you get back from the lifeboat drill, it will be perfect! BTW, you might want to bring your own glasses too....the cheapie kind you can get at the party store.

Also, if you bring a bottle of wine from home to have at dinner in one of the restaurants, they charge you a "corking fee" to open it! I can't recall what it was, though...

The "cork" fee for bringing your own wine to the restaurants is $15. I just got my cruise packet today.

We purchased a $200 bottle of Dom Perignon in Sessions pre-dinner and they wouldn't send it in to Lumiere's for us to enjoy with dinner. We had to go back to Sessions after dinner to drink the rest of the bottle. :(

also remember.....you can buy in the islands! AND, you only have to pay duty in excess of your allowance if you bring it back into the country....NOT if you drink it onboard!! The corking fee only applies if you take it to the dining room....if you drink it in your own room, you only need bring your own corkscrew. We gave our server (Liam from Jamaica) a bottle of his favorite Jamaican rum as an "extra" tip at the end of our cruise. We bought it in the islands instead of the states b/c it was much cheaper, and we didn't have to pay duty on it since we clearly did NOT bring it back into the country.
