Drinks at Jiko

We're going to Jiko on our May trip. Last time I was there I had a Zebratini, it was good but a little strong, DM said it was a bit stronger than her's.

So my question is what drink would you recommend at Jiko, and do you have a pic?

Jiko has an amazing wine list. It's all South African wines, many of which are not available anywhere else in the US. Ask your server to recommend something off of the list and you won't be disappointed.

I agree with the above posters! There is a huge African wine list, and many African beers, so I would go with that instead of a cocktail that you could probably make yourself. If you don't like wine or beer, than I guess cocktails are the way to go

On the menu, it only shows about 2 available by the glass for each type of wine (so it probably works out to between 10-15 selections). However, the second time I went there I sat at the bar, and the bartender told me I could have whatever I wanted, so I have a few types that were not listed as "by the glass".

I've not had much wine and what I did have was really cheap. Probably not the best to judge wines on.

Also, there's a bar on the 2nd level that also serves wines by the glass. It overlooks Boma if you sit along the outside edge. South Africa is really up and coming with their wine list and so you could always stop at the bar as well.

I could be wrong, but I don't think the whole Jiko wine list is available in the lounge (it's called Victoria Falls). So, if you really want to have the widest selection of South African wines, going to Jiko is the way to go.

I just came back from AKL and we went to Victoria Lounge for a drink, and they did not have the full wine list, so we sat at the Jiko bar, which wasn't as busy as the lounge anyway!

Slightly off of your topic, but if you'd like to check it out after dinner, the bar at Sanaa serves the full dessert menu of that restuarant until something like midnight or 1 AM. Last time we were there, we had a bartender named Kat who was excellent. Very funny and talkative.

Definitely worth checking out as an alternative to staying for dessert at Jiko. It's what we're going to do on our trip in November.
