May 18+ children drink with a parent while at sea on Bahama cruises or is that only allowed on European itineraries? Thank you.

No they cannot. That's why my daughter when she graduated high school changed her mind from a Disney cruise to a Mediterranean cruise. A four night Disney cruise was the same price as a week long Med cruise.

It is only the European itineraries. I think it has to completely be outside US waters (and territories) for the policy to take place. When we did the Northern Europe Sailing in 2019 we had two members of our travel party that were just about a month shy of 21. The parents of each had to sign a waiver and everyone got special stickers placed on their KTTW cards to designate that it was ok. I think the rule was that the minor with the sticker had to be with another over 21 person (with the corresponding sticker) so that they could order drinks. They were not allowed to drink on their own. To drink with a parent on the Bahama sailings, it would have to be done on land.

I'm under the understanding that the drinking rules on board are the ones that are in place from where you depart from.

Definitely not on the Bahamas or Caribbean sailings. I know it's allowed on Med cruises; not sure if that extends to all European cruises or not.

I'm not sure that's true, either, because the Alaska cruises depart from Canada which has different rules than the US regarding drinking age.

No, on EBTA, parents could sign the waiver allowing them to drink once in European waters but don’t remember exactly when.

Q.

What age must a Guest be to drink alcoholic beverages on the ship?
A.

The drinking age on board is 21, and a valid photo I.D. is required.
However, during roundtrip cruises departing from any European country that has a lower drinking age, parents or guardians may sign a Beverage Consent Form that allows their 18- to 20-year-old children to consume alcoholic beverages while in the adult’s presence.
Please note:
  • All Guests must comply with all laws and Disney Cruise Line policies related to the consumption and distribution of alcohol. In particular, Guests are prohibited from providing alcoholic beverages to any other person, regardless of age.
  • This policy is subject to change without notice.
  • Disney Cruise Line reserves the right to refuse sale and/or service of alcoholic beverages to anyone.

My DD was 18 on our Med cruise in 2018. She was fine not drinking on the ship, but was happy to sample wine when on port excursions since the legal age to drink in Europe is lower than 21.

Just know that when DCL hands out alcoholic beverages (Captains reception, NYE, etc) they don't check KTTW cards and will continue to allow them to get beverages or fill their champagne flute until they fall down drunk (along with officers watching as it happens and laughing). Even if they are with the Vibe watching fireworks. Just my experience, yours may vary.
