Drinking while pregnant--- child abuse?

Funny how if you have a few ounces of wine once or twice during your pregnancy you get labeled a child abuser, yet those who refuse to vaccinate their children to protect them from diseases are considered to be more protective of their children.

Yep, I agree with an earlier poster. The mommy wars rage on.

Contact Speilberg, we got another series!!:lmao:

MOM WARS

A long time ago (yesterday?) in a Galaxy far far away! (O.K. a mini-van ride!):rotfl2:

We are???? That's funny...I could have sworn that most people think I'm an ignorant, cruel, selfish, neglectful POS because my son is completely unvaccinated.:confused3

:rotfl:

Seriously, though. I haven't had too many people out in cyberspace (other than my crunchy mommy friends) give me warm fuzzies about not allowing my child to be vaccinated. Not that it matters to me. I know I've made the right decision for my son and don't look for outside approval. I'm just sayin'...

Also, those of us who don't vaccinate ARE trying to protect our children. We have simply come to the conclusion that vaccination is more harmful than the diseases they purport to prevent. That's all.

You have thousands and thousands of mothers who indulge in a glass of wine during their pregnancy and their babies are totally and completely fine, yet a few people are saying that it's going to cause harm to their babies, they're causing their fetus to be drunk, it's not safe, yada yada. Based on what?? Again, I ask someone to point me to a case where having ONE glass of wine during your pregnancy has caused damage to a fetus? We're not talking about a woman who hits the bottle every day, I'm talking about one SMALL glass of wine.

Then, there's the vaccines. Millions of people have been safely vaccinated, yet there can be a few reports of someone having a bad reaction to a vaccine, despite all the reasearch that has been done to prove them safe and effective, and all the self-called "crunchy" mommies freak out and think that vaccines are evil and unsafe. Where does it end? I seriously am glad that I'm not paranoid about everything, otherwise I don't think I'd ever have kids. I wouldn't be able to handle the stress of raising them in such a toxic world!

I don't think anyone here is advocating drinking it up while pregnant. I personally think that you should be able to go 9 months without drinking. But if someone wants to have a small glass of wine and her doctor says it's ok, I won't judge and think they're bad mothers. It's been mentioned that women in Europe regularly drink wine while pregnant - I'm curious what their rate of healthy births are? Isn't it higher then the US?? I thought I read that here once on another thread.

Anyway, I guess my point is that such paranoia over having the occasional small glass of wine while pregnant IMO is right up there with the unnecessary paranoia over vaccines.

Nothing in this world is without risk! I don't believe for one second that having a small glass of wine once or twice during your pregnancy is anything close to being abusive. I'd like someone to show me a case where a child was born brain damaged and has physical deformities because their mother drank a glass of wine while pregnant. And prove it was the alcohol that did it. I don't condone drinking while pregnant, but I don't believe that one glass of wine will cause damage to your fetus.

I didn't drink, smoke or do drugs during any of my pregnancies. I was the model pregnant person, and you know what? I still gave birth to two children with severe disabilities. Life is a crapshoot.
