I've heard a lot mentioned about buying bottled water in the parks. Does anyone just refill a water bottle at the drinking fountains? That's what I ususally do at home when I'm out and about. Is the tap water icky tasting at WDW? I'm a bit of a cheapskate and hate the idea of buying bottled water several times a day.

Thanks,
AG

I think the water is icky tasting at the parks, although not uniformily, and we have been known to refill the bottlles. We don't buy water from park vendors, we do bring water in with us.

the tap water in Florida (at least in the parts I've been to) is icky tastey. Very sulfur-y. Plus the water out of the fountains is warm.

That being said, we are cheap and we usually drink it anyway.

HI,

I have heard the Orlando area water is bad smelling/tasteing.

On one of the other websites I read about a way to make the fountain/faucet water drinkable with the Brita Fill & Go water bottle.

According to Brita, the filter will last up to 80 refills. I guess it depends on the water that you're putting through it. This item is no longer being produced by Brita and is very, very hard to find as are the replacement filters.

The Brita Fill & Go filter processes 15 gallons.

Filters instantly as you squeeze.

Activated carbon reduces Chlorine, Bad Tastes and Odors.

Leakproof Bottle.

Unfortunately it has been discontinued, but I got mine today on EBay for $5.50 + $4.00 shipping. It comes with 1 filter, but you can also get replacements through EBay. I tried Wal-Mart and K-Mart, but could not find any.

Hope this helps.

Jeff

One EBayer said this.....

If you go to the DIS board (a chatroom for Walt Disney World and Disneyland fans) you will see that everyone is raving about these and looking for them. Though they are good for much more than that. They were discontinued, and cannot be purchased in any store. I just got back from WDW last week (Pop Century & All Stars Resort). It was GREAT! The Greatest Celebration on Earth 50th Anniverserary was AWESOME! We got some of the golden Ears (Mickey antenna balls) for our antenna and all kinds of one of a kind stuff! We didnt use these afterall and had to cut the trip short due to medical problems. Never even got to use them. We still had fun though. The water in Walt Disney World goes through iron pipes that makes it taste AWFUL! I can handle all kinds of bad water, but WDW is definately the worst! Its enough to make you want to go thirsty!!! Even worse than Myrtle Beach!

We own the Brita bottles and take them with us to Disney. By the way, I thought they were discontinued but found them at CVS two weeks ago (Tennessee)!

That said, we were lazy this trip (just back Friday) and mostly drank the warm stuff from the fountains. No one got sick and I am way too cheap to buy bottles. It helped that it wasn't too hot and rained almost every day! That cut down on our water consumption.

Hi. :wave2: I think that the water in Disney doesn't taste good but it sure is nice when you are really hot and need a sip of water to help cool you down. We usually buy a pack of water(in bottles) from a store near Disney andd take them with us to the parks. We use the bottle holders and refill the water when we need to. :wave2: Bye.

We love using our Brita bottles at Disney World, because we think the water tastes awful - even when it's ice cold. We stayed offsite, and also used a Brita pitcher in our villa. We used filtered water from the pitcher to make ice cubes to put in our filter bottles when we started out in the morning. As for how many gallons of water one filter will be good for, I think it's actually more than Brita states on the packages - especially if you're mainly interested in filtering out a nasty taste.

As for the availability of the Brita Fill & Go bottles - it's true that Brita has discontinued making the bottles and filters. Because of this, many stores - particularly Wal-Mart - sold what they had on clearance a month or two ago. However, you may still be able to find them (at regular price) at CVS or other stores that don't routinely clearance things just because they're no longer available. There are also quite a few of them listed on eBay.

By the way, you don't really need a separate filter bottle for every member of your family. If you're the sharing kind, several people can drink from one bottle. Or, if you want to keep your germs separate, you can use one filter bottle to refill individual non-filter bottles or cups. (The filter locks into the top of the bottle, just below the pull-up top - so the water is filtered as it comes out of the bottle. You can squeeze freshly filtered water from the filter bottle into another bottle or cup.)

All of the fountain drinks and water taste like rubber to me. So, I just drink bottled water.

the tap water is really awful tasting, and the smell is bad at some of the fountains. But some of the water fountains talk or make strange noises, so they are fun to use whether you drink the water or not.

If you have a car, go to the local grocery store (Publix, Walmart, Target) and buy water. Price is usually around 24¢ per bottle when buying 12 bottles.

If you have no car, you can always go to the Hess gasoline station and buy water there. Hess's per bottle price is cheaper than Disney: Hess also had one gallon bottles when I was there last. You can get to Hess by walkiing from Boardwalk resort, or by walking across the street from DTD.

We had 2 strollers with us, so we just started each day with a bunch of bottled water in the stroller baskets. We bought a couple cases at the local wal-mart. When we ran out, we drank from the fountains. It's not good tasting water, but it works when you are thirsty.

The bottled water that was sold at Sea World or Universal was horrible. I was just looking for the name of it and apparently it is Florida's most popular bottled water. I have no idea why though. It's called Zephyrhills and it is the worst tasting bottled water I have ever had in my entire life. It was just as bad or worse than the drinking fountains.

I love my Brita water bottle!! It is just perfect for WDW. I stocked up on the filters and a couple of extra bottles at Wal-mart a couple of months ago. I have also seen them at Publix lately.

I have been searching everywhere for a holder or carrier ppouch for my brita bottles, with no success. I keep buying different ones and returning them because the bottles don't fit right. Any ideas??? Thanks! :confused3

I agree--the water in the fountains at WDW is HORRIBLE, and usually warm. I think the only place I've actually had decent water from a fountain was at Downtown Disney.

I've been thinking about what to do about drinking water, and I guess the easiest thing is just to find a store offsite and buy a gallon or two and refill our waterbottles every night back at the hotel. I've heard tell that there are small "quikie-mart" type places at some of the resorts, but I have no clue what they sell, or if they even exist.:confused3

I also freeze at least 3/4 of my bottles the night before, that way they melt during the day, but are still ice-cold into the evening.:earsboy:

Those filter bottles are great, I have also seen some that are made by other brands beside Brita. Another idea is asking for a cup of ice water at locations that have fountain soda, such as a counter service restaurant. They must have the tap soda otherwise they won't have clean ice or cups or water that is filtered. This water is filtered and it will be cold. It tastes better than the water fountain water, plus it is cold. Best of all every time I have asked they have given me a cup with water and ice for free.

We spend a small fortune on buying bottled water in the parks. There are four of us and we usually buy two at a time.

We use the water from the water fountains to refill our water bottles, and then add some Crystal Light or Gatorade mix. It covers up the nasty taste and I don't have to listen to DH and DS complain that they are drinking water :rotfl2:

I and my husband just refill our bottles over and over, we live here, so the water isn't icky to us....

Me and DH refilled our bottled water all day. It would cost fortune to buy all the water you would need to stay hydrated in July when we went...I had nevery drank so much water in my life! The fountain water tasted ok to me and the plus is, you don't feel bad pouring it out and refilling it if the water gets too warm.
