To those of you who have done this........
Let's assume we stick with just beer......

What are your best tips?
How much does it cost?
Do you do/ride attractions along the way?
How long does this take (what time should we get started)?

Thanks in advance for the suggestions!

Eat a big breakfast with lots of protein and fats; buy the smaller servings of brew, they usually equal a large scooner found anywhere else; take your time, it's not a race; ride attractions as your stomach allows; snack along the way, I suggest the cheese & fruit platter at the Rose & Crown; allow several hours at least. We try to time it to allow a 5-6 pm recovery period in order to be fresh for nighttime activities. Prices of Epcot beer as of Nov. 2002 below. Cheers!

Hi

DH and I did 'Beers Around the World' in 2002.

But it took us 2 nights. We went to the other parks during the day and went to Epcot in the evening. We did half of each world in about 3 hours -enjoying the attractions, street performers and parade while sipping our brews!

And I must confess that we did share a couple of the more 'interesting' beers such as the one from Africa.

wow, Bill from PA, that is extensive info! good for you!
we have tried this sevveral times! lol, and it is sooo much fun! I have never made it around to every country, but have made it to about 8 or 9 countries in one shot....
the best part is NOT plannig it out! just go, oreder what you feel like, and get as far as you can....:)

get a pretzel in Germany to soak up some of the beer in your tummy!:)

I've done this a few times (with a rowdy bunch of DISers). I even have a DATW banner (made for me by PandyPaws) and a couple of DATW buttons that I made for the occasion.

Protocol suggests that you start at the Pub in the UK and go clockwise around the World Showcase. I haven't managed to drink at EVERY country around the world. Yet. In fact, I usually just stop in France to go "oui oui". :teeth:

BTW - It helps to be staying at one of the Boardwalk resorts. That way you can walk (stagger???) home and not have to worry about buses.

Has anyone proposed a DATW event for the December meet & greet? A few of my friends have talked about it informally, but I know of no organized activity. It'd be fun, though.

Like Towncrier said, it is great if you stay at one of the Epcot resorts (not only do you just have to stagger back, but you don't have to fight crowds at the IG entrance). We made it completely around the world in one day, starting at about one. We were taking our time, checking stuff out. Make sure you finish your drink in the country you get it from, no cheating! And we had our picture taken with every bartender. That is great! There was a definite difference in our appearance between UK and Japan (we started in the U.K. and went clockwise). Just pace your self and have a great time! You'll see us staggering around in November!:smooth:

Hey Bill...

Did I read too quickly, or did you leave out having a Ringnes at Norway? one of my all time favorite beers.

And if you're fortunate enough to head down for the food and wine festival, there is no better drinking tour anywhere- there are plenty of beers scattered amongst the cooking kiosks are some exceptional brews- Athena beer from Greece was a notable one... and dont' forget to stop off at the Congac kiosk... right near Chocolate, conveniently enough....

OH- and the Chinese beer is called Tsingtao. Very hoppy, but good- I usually only have one when I'm eating Chinese food...

We always leave room for dessert in France (Boulangerie).

my favorite "EPCOT and beer" story:

We attended the Food and Wine festival in '97. One night we decided we'd skip dinner and "eat around the world", going from booth to booth, eating and drinking.

We made it a little more than half way around the lake, when we noticed an open sided canopy/ tent set up (I think it was in the vicinity of Germany) with about thirty chairs and a table full of beer bottles. I asked the CM near the table what was going on, and she told me that in about fifteen minutes, the owner of a microbrewery (it was either Harpoon or Red Hook, I can't remember which) would be there to tell us about the brewing process and hand out samples of the beers his brewery made. The CM said we could have a cup of beer (free!!) while we waited.

After waiting a little while, a second CM came into the tent and spoke with the first CM, who then told us that the brewery owner had been called out of the park due to a family emergency, and we were free to hang out and drink as much as we wanted!

We "sampled" each of the four or five beers available.

I strongly advise not going on Body Wars after drinking around the world :D

We are leaving in 2 days. I can't wait to try this. If you wanted to be finished by the time Illuminations began what time would you start?

Jay Since 72,

Ringnes is a close second to Tennents at the Rose & Crown according to my palate. You're right, I need to add it to my list.

I'll add my pitch for DATW but I mixed my drinks up(partial to Mexico for margitas and Yes I'm a border girl:) )

Heck, I recommend you go with "Bill From PA"! We should recruit him into our group. Octoberfest is coming, Bill!

Just by chance, I've linked up with a bunch of "party pals" who are all Irish and over 6' 2" on the average. Always get a space at the bar. And as I am so fond of saying:

"I'm not Irish, but the people who carry me home are!"

You'll have a blast no matter where you go. We always start in Mexico, though. To be honest, beer is so filling and if I'm going to stumble all over EPCOT, I don't like to feel so full. Margaritas get you going for a nice sendoff. Also, "England" looks like a much better place to end up than "Mexico" at EPCOT.

Sounds like us Pa people have similar tastes!!!
My family (Wife & Daughters w/Husband&Boyfriend) do this when we go. Wife and I have been doing for years and since girls are now older it has become family event. Your picture indicates same for you.
We are going for Food & Wine festival in beginning of November. Will report back.
Now I must remind you of 2 more beers.
Casablanca which you can get between China and Germany in the African Outpost or Morrocco.
And my ALLTIME FAVORITE "MOOSEHEAD" in Canada.

Also, if you get Casablanca at the Outpost, you can try what my family considers a WDW SECRET -- Tangerine Cocktail in Morrocco at the takeout counter.

I'm with you on the Tenant's, Bill.

And being 6'4" and of Irish descent, I'd like to apply for the "Tall Irishmen's Walt Disney World Drinking and Literary Society".

I will add no Mission:Space after DATW!!

you mean the Brew N' Spew?

you could go on Test Track and be drinking and driving safely...

I've done this back in May. Started in France and ended up in the pub. I don't remember much after Mexico. Yes, I mixed my drinks. Pal Mickey's jokes are a little funnier after that many drinks.

does it count if you're relatively tall and 1/4 Irish?

As far as I'm concerened, absolutely. It's just a title. It could all be honorary- being Irish, tall, drunk, or literary.

be sure to take a picture waring a hat of the country you're in! I'll be there the week before Thanksgiving!
